Does anybody know Julio Cesar Chavez senior's training routine when he was in his prime, he is my favourite fighter and would like to take some pointers from his routine.....
I know that Chavez Sr. sparred non-stop. In his prime he kept it going something like 6 days a week, for hours and hours at a time. He was also famous for doing practically no speed work. There was a clip HBO showed, I think it was before the Taylor fight, where Chavez tried the speed bag out and couldn't keep it going for more than a few seconds. After a couple of tries at it he just burst out laughing at himself and gave it up. I know he used to do exercises to strengthen the muscles in his jaw, on the theory that it helped his chin, and of course some running and body work. I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's all I know for sure.
Dont anyone have a sceduele he followed or anything along them lines as there dont seem to be nothing solid on him yet he was one of the greatest of all time in my opinion, im also looking for roberto durans training routine.....
Manny Steward said Chavez used to train at very high altitude in the mountains of southern Mexico. Higher than other Mexican boxers.
I heard he used to work on combinations every day, first in shadow boxing, then repeating them on the heavy bag and then repeating them in sparring
Duran's routine: Shadow boxing - 10mins Heavy bag or Sparring - 7x5min rounds (30sec breaks) Speed bag - 5x5min rounds (30sec breaks) Jump rope - 2x10mins (30sec break), note- Duran had a unique style of jumping rope where he would crouch down He'd run 60-90mins in the morning at steady pace
