It's impossible to gauge how Chavez would have done at WW in a prime vs prime match when he peaked at 135 or 140. P4P, Chavez > Quartey by a mile but the Chavez that did fight at 147 would lose to Quartey.
Quartey should handle him. The size advantage would be too much, as Quartey wasn't merely some scrub who was bigger than the great Chavez, he was a very good fighter.
Why are threads always matching Chavez (who fought at 130.135.140) up with Welters? Ive seen him matched up with Tito,Cotto,Quartey,Mosley etc etc. Should match him up with Cervantes,Benitez(140),Pryor,Tszyu or Lightweights and JL.
Quartey by UD or TKO. Quartey was an excellent boxer and underachieved considering the skills he had.
How about at a catchweight of 140 lbs.? I don't think Ike would have been weight drained, and JCC would not have been too fat. Thanks.
i think this one is a bit unfair , as i dont remember Chavez being a welterweight , and Ike was a big welter , with a realy great great jab, so no decision.
1996 Chavez IS FAR AWAY from a prime Chavez .... and the cut was all the factor here!!! .... 1998 Chavez is still more FAR AWAY to his prime! ... still in this fight JCC hurt Hoya a bit more than Prime Mosley, Prime Tito and Prime Vargas Did!! WTF with you noobs
The only thing which favors Quartey is size. He was overrated. I think Julio can still wear him down and stop him.
