Who do you like in this? JMM got the style to cause JCC big problems but is it only a matter of time untill he is ground down and took out?

What style is that that would cause Chavez big problems? The kind where the opponent stands off and bangs? Call me crazy, but I thought Chavez excelled against those types.

Imagine Juan Diaz and Katsidis x 100, with greater accuracy, punch variation, superior power, plus much greater technique, infighting and defensive skills...This is what this would be pretty much...

JMM can fight well in the pocket too, but against Chavez, that would be suicide, as he would stay stuck on him like glue, and with Marquez' leaky defense, Julio would be landing his devastating accurate shots to head and body..Stopping a badly disfigured, and broken bodied Marquez somewhere around the 8th.

You'll need to have a very very very excellent defense, excellent inside game, and stupid speed to give Chavez problems...Or be extremely phsycially stronger...JMM does not qualify.

JMM's hand speed and combos would give Chavez problems, but it wouldn't be enough to hurt Chavez or keep him off him, and JMM's defensive holes would be ripped open.

Great action fight, but Chavez takes it handily.

I'd cheer for Marquez, Chavez would probably edge him at this weight, but let's not pretend Chavez bossed every top opponent he faced from 130-140, so I see it as a close fight

I'd favor Chavez to wear him down and win, but anyone who doesn't think JMM's in-the-pocket counter-punching wouldn't give him problems over the course of a fight is seriously underrating him. Marquez himself picked up a lot of tricks from watching Chavez, and stylistically is in a way his inverse.

True, but the top fighters he had good fights with were usually in their prime at their best weight, not crusty old blown up types with aging reflexes.

If you were faded you usually got horribly beaten, as the really good Ruben Castillo would attest to.

130 would be the weight Marquez might offer up a good deal of resistance at, not lightweight.

I doubt Marquez could beat the 1987 Chavez who ran through Ed Rosario on HBO and took his crown by TKO...... Chavez at 135 was on fire that night..... 'Tis to this day its one of my ATG lightweight title fights to review from my collection...

    Chavez by TKO 11 Marquez...

At 135, Marquez wins a couple of rounds, but is by and large overwhelmed in an incredibly entertaining fight, getting stopped late or widely outpointed.

At 130, its a close call.

Chavez NEVER put the heat that Diaz put on Marquez the first time around, and in my opinion, that might be why Marquez survives to the late going.

Chavez boxed a lot more than people seem to claim he does. He was far from a bull, in reality a consummate boxer/puncher who tended to pressure from the front foot. I just can't see Chavez wading in with reckless abandon to get an early stoppage like Diaz did.

Chavez was bull like at 130 to 135 in my opinion..... His boxing skills didn't really shine until he peaked at 140.....

Duran and Chavez are too of the strongest 135 pounders I have ever seen............ No... Manolo Pacquiao is not in that class...... Pacquiao has become a cable TV fighter facing old farts or weight drained foe's....

Finally you got it. Most of his wins above 140 have no legitimacy at all

I hold this LW JMM in higher esteem than most, I consider him the BHOPs of the lower weights. The way he's aged so gracefully, gone up in weight while being a thoughtful technician. He's also grown well into the weight, being a ripped 142 in the ring

The more I think about this match up, the more I think it suits JMM having someone who'll pressure him, which will create many countering opportunities. Many will point to him being hit by Diaz but his counters were better than what Diaz was throwing from the beggining. He recovers very well and always fires back with better punches. This would be a war, Chavez would have a little too much of everything for JMM though
