Diaz only brought the heat for the first five rounds or so though, and is incredibly one dimensional and feather fisted.

I would say Chavez gets JMM out of there late in a 15 rounder, but that his resilience should see him through over 12 :good

At 135 I would say Chavez.

JMM has done well at 135 but that is because he is a superior boxer than the current crop. JMM has shown that he's vunerable at 135, he was really hurt by Katsidis in their fight (and I don't think Katsidis is that big a puncher) and he's been down or rocked a few times at LW. He's been able to survive & come back fighting against those guys by using all of his experience and craft but he has had to dig deep at LW.

JMM fighting Chavez at 135 would just be a step too far for Marquez, it's a good weight for Chavez who I see grinding Marquez down the stretch for a decent UD or even a late stoppage.

JMM vs JCC at 130 however could be amazing.

the way I see it, chavez has the stylistic advantage because he has the chin and stamina to take shots and keep coming, plus he has the heart to dig deep and battle through.

chavez starts strong, jmm maybe has some success in the middle rounds, but chavez also finishes strong (marquez would hope to have tired him and hence his gameplan fails)

I agree with the people saying it would be a more competitive fight at 130lbs...JMM stills gets busted up there...but not nearly as bad like at 135lbs.

Chavez would take this. Marquez would put up a fight but he isn't as fast and his legs look weaker at 135. It could be a combination of age but just never thought he looked right at 135 even though he keeps winning. IF Diaz could push JMM back Chavez most definitely can.

Chavez would destroy Marquez at any weight but especially LW, no contest at all.

People forget all of Chavez' close fights.

Better question would be: Jose Luis Ramirez Vs JMM @ 135 IMO.

JMM is overrated. This is a fight which Julio would win by knockout in about 10.. Similar to the Rosario fight.

People (like you) also forget that most of those were at 130lbs when he was having trouble with the weight, or when he was on the slide in his 140lbs days.

At 135lbs, he was at his absolute peak.

Except that Marquez is a much better fighter than Rosario, and stylistically matches up better with an inside pressure fighter like Chavez. He very well could get stopped, but I would be surprised if he did.

At 130 anyway. At 135, a KO inside of 10 is much more possible.

I don't think JMM matches well with a great like Chavez. Chavez handspeed was much better than it seemed and his combinations were too sharp. JMM lost to Johns and was outclassed by Mayweather, not saying Mayweather doesn't have fast hands, but the blueprint to beat JMM is not very complicated. Rosario vs. JMM at lightweight I pick Rosario. The one thing about Edwin was he was a little inconsistent due to his rather undependable chin. The Bramble fight he dominated Bramble, but had Bramble landed a nice counterpunch which hurt Edwin, it could have been a different fight.

He was robbed pretty badly against John, MAG. The Mayweather fight was an example on how to trouble Marquez (even though the size difference and extra bulk made a visible difference), but how many fighters have that many advantages against Marquez?

If you pick Rosario to beat JMM, I think you simply underrate Marquez's IQ and ability to adjust. I have to admit that Lightweight isn't his best career form, but an elite counter-puncher with a very high infighting IQ who can fight going backwards and throw fluid combinations following accurate counter-punches (who studied Chavez's tricks himself) is going to give Chavez a good fight.

I don't believe that Marquez is genuinely better than Chavez at any one thing. There are several things JCC does better, and he's the bigger man. There'd be some really great exchanges here, but Julio is in control the whole way through, and ultimately busts Marquez up pretty badly, stopping him late.
