[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgenYK7VaxY[/ame] What are your thoughts on this fight in general, but particularly the legitimacy of the stoppage in RD12?
This has been done to death, and I still can't decide. Taylor didn't respond to the ref as he should have done leaving the ref no choice but to stop the fight. However, there were only a few seconds left and Taylor was being distracted by his corner.
i think it was legitimate. the ref followed the rules. if he hadnt stopped it, many people, myself included, would have thought that jcc had been robbed.
If it was the other way around you would have been complaining about it untill this day. taylor clearly schooled chavez and it was a bull**** decision from the reff.
I alway thought of it this way; 1) if the fight was stopped with Meldrick in this condition earlier in the fight everybody would have said it was a good stoppage. 2) if Meldrick would have gotten the go and Chavez landed one more huge blow, the ref would have gotten the blame. 3) if Meldrick survived the round in that condition, most people would say he fluked because it was obvious he wasn't ready to go another round.
Remember when we were kids....? And they used to ask us "Who won the fight" & we responded "That guy Won" Simply based on the amount of damage and actual punches one suffered from. Thats what I think about this fight. Taylor got ****ed up, plain and simple.
its in the rulebook somwhere, man. the fighter has to say he's ok and wants to continue fighting. meldrick didnt say anything. what was the ref supposed to do? let him take more blows to the head? meldrick was all over the place.
I know but I jsut felt bad for him because he had like 3 seconds left, just take 2 steps back and he would have won. This is the ultimate fight by the way where nobody would have been talking about if it were a 15 rounder.
Sometimes I think boxing would be better if the only criteria was damage caused by the end of the fight
:good Right. Based on the... "Who would you rather look/Be like rules" at the end of 12rds. Based on that criteria, I'd be Chavez. Those who choose Taylor can tell me what it's like to **** blood. While he celebrates his win in a hospital bed. While Chavez is getting sucked off by Selma Hayek as a loser... lol
