Chavez hurt his right hand, and boxed most of the time. Lockridge was game, but just a step behind the whole time. It was this fight that convinced me that Chavez should move up. Lockridge was a little past it by this time, and hurt hand or no, I really thought he should have stopped him. Not a lot of shifts of momentum; I remember Chavez momentarily hurting Lockridge once, but it wasn't bad. I had it 9-3 Chavez.
I know that, boxrec told me so. But its says MD and I know that Rocky was a very capable fighter in his prime. I also know that Monaco, where the fight was held, can throw out some weird scoring. Ive swear Ive seen a title fight there where the one judged scored it like 118-116. You can see that one judge scored it 119-113 for the Chavez-Lockridge fight, in fact all judges scored at least on 10-10 round.
Had it closer than Sal had it, but agree with the general description of how the fight went down. Lockridge was never going to win it, despite being competetive the whole way through.
Agree with the consensus here, it was competitive but not close. Chavez won clearly. You could see from the middle rounds that he hurt his hand. He started doubling up on the jab and using more lateral movement, he let Lockridge move him around a bit but was still in control of the fight.
I had it 116-113 for Chavez with one round even actually. Lockridge did pretty well but Chavez was more effective despite having his right hand broke.
I didn't think the fight was close at all. Lockridge did fairly well early on by outhustling Chavez when Chavez went to the ropes, but after that, Chavez outboxed him handily. Chavez used the ring very well, picked his punches economically and landed the far cleaner shots, especially with the uppercut. I thought it was a very good display of boxing and using the ring, especially from a fighter known for coming forward and applying pressure.
For the first few round Rocky threw them away by 'shoeshining' little punches, focusing on moving. When he sat down on them he didn't find Chavez too hard to find. Good fight, close one too.
I have since seen this...excellent gruelling type of fight. My take of the fight at the time was closer the Thread Stealers but probably more of a combination of both his and sweet_scientist's posts. It was a blur of competitive round after competitive round but to me Chavez always seemed a step ahead and didnt drop to many rounds. What sticks out in my mind was Chavez using the ring and picking his punches nicely aswell...I always remember thinking about how quick he looked at times, which isnt something that you notice all that much in Chavez fights. I dont think I scored it...but Chavez definitely deserved the nod, it was well earned.
I think if Rocky was ever going to scream about a decision it would not be this fight, he had more reason to feel hard done by in the Gomez fight. but both fights confirmed that Rocky was nobody's easy meat.
