Julio Cesar Chavez vs Terrance Ali

I have that on tape, but I haven't watched it in years.... 'Tis part of the "Lewis-Tucker" 1993 PPV card........... Terry Alli was a good contender, but he never could win the big one.... The losses to "Arroyo & Chavez" were the MUST WIN bouts in which he failed.... I'm not sure If Alli ever fought after 1993........

In terms of punch precision and power, this was Chavez's best showing IMO.

 

Yeah, but Alli was shopworn by 1993...... He was close in age as that of Chavez, but Alli had slowed and his reflexes were shot by the early 1990s...... I think Don King was basically offering him a last paycheck when he allowed him to fight Chavez for the title........ Later on in Sept., Chavez got a gift draw with Pernell Whitaker..... Chavez was actually fading as well.......

Yes he was, still a hell of a fighter though even so.

 

This fight was a lovely and brutal piece of work. The accuracy of Chavez was great both in single shots, (like the one that buckled Alli in the first) and in combinations. Might have been over sooner but Chavez hurt his right at some point, hence the overabundance of left hooks from Chavez.

Even so, this fight was a dissection. Can't say Alli doesn't have heart, but then he probably knew all too well that this could be his last chance.

Don't know about the brain damage, but sometime after I saw this fight on youtube a year or two ago I decided to google Alli. I found something that said he was living in poverty in Africa, but it didn't say anything that I can remember about his health.

 

Good one Addie as Ali was one of the Top Fighters at the time. I hate watching a young fighter get his career shortened because their corner had no conscience. Ali ran his mouth before that fight. Chavez ended so many careers like Ahn, Holligan, Rosario, and Taylor.

 

I heard it was 'Mugabi' who was broke and living in Africa... I'm not sure about Terry Alli........ Manager Mickey Duff said yrs ago that John Mugabi had no clue as to what the value of a dollar was..... Mugabi turns 50 this year, so no comeback is gonna happen from him...... Thank Christ.......

Just curious do you have a copy of McKinney v Nestor Lopez is was on the Barrera and Jesse Magana undercard. The reason I ask was because Nestor's performance killed the rematch between MAB and KM...if you have it let me know as I would love to see that fight again.

 

Ali is broke he is from Guyana not Africa

 

I just reviewed the tape. Alli's ass was kicked.. He was weak against the stronger Chavez... Chavez dropped and stopped his man in round 6.... YES! Alli wanted to carry on, but his ass was kicked.... Carlos Padilla did him a favor....... Screw the controversial stoppage..... Chavez won......

"Ref" Padilla ****ed up a little.... After Chavez dropped Alli in round 6, Chavez was going to work on Alli... Padilla looked lik he was about to waive it off and Chavez just turned away and rejoiced on the upper rope in the corner.... Bedalm occurred for a moment, but it was to no avail.... Chavez was the winner......
