Indeed. I thought JCC did well in rounds 2 and 5, and he also won a couple of rounds leading up to the stoppage. It was razor close after the knockdown, I may have even had it even if Steele hadn't waved it off. I can't be sure though.
Chavez was relentless, like a machine against Taylor in that first fight. I still think it was criminally irresponsible for the ref to stop it without being aware of the time. JCC would have just killed Taylor in a rematch to regain the crown, I'm convinced.
He was Don King's "kept woman" basically. The spoiled son of the rich guy dwn the street that began to expect preferetnial treatment from all including the judges, and whined and cried like the little punk he is when things finally didn't go his way. The true measure of a man is taken when we see how he reacts when things go wrong. We learned a lot about him in such circumstances.
Also once he stole my horchata. We were at a restaurant and everyone else had ordered beers so I had the only horchata, and I got up to wash my hand before the botana came and there was Chavez slurping down the horchata. And he was giving me this look like, Yeah this drink isn't mine so what, and I sat down and glared at him but he was indifferent. Fajita was never as bitter...
No way. Chavez was a methodical assasin..more so than Pac..a machine, not to overwork that metaphor, but you know what I mean. Relentless is the word.
I love JCC, obviously, but even I must concede that had Steele let the fight continue then Taylor would have seen out the three seconds comfortably, and without injury. Do I think JCC would have won by legitimate stoppage if there was 30 seconds left? Yes, I do, but Taylor got up from the canvas quickly enough, and he seemed steady enough to me that most referees in the same predicament as Steele would have allowed him to continue.
You're a funny man LittleRed. Regarding Taylor-Chavez, I think Meldrick was done after that knockdown. The way he passively rested on the ropes after Steele called it off rather than remonstrating and at least walking around in disgust shows that he didn't have much left.... At best he was a couple of punches from being put lights out imo. Had about 6 or 7 seconds left of fight time in him tops...
Nice tribute. Would Chavez be the last come forward fighter the game has seen with above average defense?
