I think greg said something along the lines of JCC having only fought Tijuana taxi drivers & after the hammering he took he said at the afterfight presser "Jeezus they must have been some tough mother****in taxi drivers"

Well if you take out all the cabdrivers and bums how many good ones are left standing?

    That's just not true!

He'd build up his resume like his son did (43-0 over punchbags), but after that he fought big names regularly and stopped or whooped them all until the famous Taylor I fight. And even if people think the ref should have let Taylor continue in the last seconds of the 12th round, look in what shape Meldrick was and compare that to JCC.
After that he beat the crap out of another list of contenders with a few big names in there (Haugen, Mitchell, Camacho), and fought a few stiffs as well until his 2nd controversial fight of his career (at 89-0) the draw against Whitaker (what indeed wasn't a draw). After that he got a SD loss to Randall, winning the rematch. Beating up Taylor in the rematch also, kept on winning until all went wrong from the point he lost to ODLH.

Big resume, big names, only 2 controversial bouts in a 115 (!) bout career. A true great!

He's got more than just two.

The Randall rematch was controversial. In fact, Chavez just got plain lucky. The Gonzalez draw was controversial too. The wins over Laporte, Lockridge, and Kamau were all very close and reasonably debatable.

He's definitely an all-time great, however.

Just based on a resume Chavez's best 5 wins as I see them-

    1. Meldrick Taylor- Taylor was favorite in fight. Goes with out saying a awesome fighter ranked in the p4p ranking after a rare ko loss for Buddy Mckirt. Took his undefeated record and this is really a case of a boxer having his futue beaten out of him.

    2. Edwin Rosario- favorite in the fight. World champ and future world champ once again. While never reached potential was a devastating puncher and goes up well aganst all but a few lightweights H2H. Biggest puncher Chavez faced.

3- Jose Louis Ramirez- cracking fighter few years removed from beating Rosario. Before that lost a ultra close decision to the ATG Arguello. Unfortuantly remembered for bs win against Sweet Pea and getting dominated in rematch. Underrated tough *******.

4-Hector Camacho- Only lost once. Very good fighter in and around prime are. Unfortuantly the negative Camacho, not the early exciting one. Didn't achieve much on world scene after but had serious world level skills.

5- Mario Martinez- Martinez favorite in fight. Up and coming prospect, more touted than Chavez. Extremely close fights later on with Azumah Nelson and gave Fenech and R. Mayweather hell (what I've heard not seen)

Its so hard to label these wins unfortuantly. RJJ's best 5 are better than these. But the depth of the resume goes to Chavez for me. Fighters like
    R.Mayweather
    Ruben Castillo
    Miguel Angel Gonzalez
    Giovanni Parisi
    Juan Laporte
    Rocky Lockridge
Frankie Randall (bs win, why I left out of top 5)
    Giovanni Parisi
    Greg Haugen
    Terrance Ali
    Sammy Fuentes
Tony Lopez (not best version but his performance was admirable)
