Every once in a while we all fall in love with a fighter, and this guy was my choice to be the next big thing, however he has disappointed me so greatly I can't stand to watch him fight anymore. I've heard through good sources that he "threw" the fight against Troy Browning because he wasn't happy with his management situation. If you watch that fight (you're better off not, it's dreadfully boring) you just end up screaming at the screen because you know Garcia could have taken out Troy with just about any punch, though he never through any. Knowing what I know about the fight, and watching it's pretty clear he was actively trying to lose. After not fighting in 2009 and 2010 I see he's come back to go 4-2 against so-so competition, though I haven't seen any of these fights. How did he look in his losses to Rosales and Lopez, did he try? If he just lost because he is already burnt out at 25 that's one thing, but I can't help but thinking of the Browning loss when I see loses on his record. He's only 25 years old, but already fought 51 times, so he may be burnt out, but I truly thought this guy was going to be a BEAST for anyone from 147-160 given his height and size at the time, though it doesn't appear to be. Seriously doubtful that he'll even draw a blip from this post, but would like to hear some recent thoughts on him, if they exist.
I had completely forgotten about this guy until I saw he fought David Lopez recently. I remember thinking he would be something, too. What a sad case he turned out to be. Didn't he supposedly break one of Jose Luis Castillo's ribs in sparring when he was only 18 or 19?
Yeah, I think it caused him to back out of a fight, so they say. He had his first professional fight when he was 15, and makes me think he's either washed up already, or doesn't really care about boxing anymore. He has huge power, and some of his knockouts over bad competition are downright scary, he also has a great chin. I think his problems are immaturity, poor training, and maybe distain for the fight game for whatever reason (I remember he said he felt used at one point) This is an odd question, but did he look like he was trying against Lopez? Lopez isn't a push over, so it's not to discredit him, just in Garcia's loses it seems like he isn't trying and I can't say I've ever really said that about any other fighters.
I saw him on espn friday night fights and he knocked out Sanchez in round one in just a few seconds.the same Sanchez that Micky Ward ko with body shot.
Sadly that's probably his best win, but a great KO. Also the one punch KO against no-hoper Medina was close to KO the year material as well
Wouldn't mind this thread getting one more read-thru in the general before we let it die... so...BUMP!
He was already like 40 or 41 when they fought. Weren't you a Garcia supporter at one time, or am I mistaken?
I didn't see the Lopez fight, I only read the result on another site. Though, I'm curious to see how Garcia is looking these days myself.
