Martinez probably had one of the worst title reigns in recent years, and when I mean by that: Inactivity, multiple postponements, dodgy decisions and unwillingness to face the other champions in his weight class. At least his fights were exciting to watch. With the end of his title reign - 2019 to 2024. There are now only four titlists from the 2010's. Knockout Cp Freshmart, Terence Crawford, Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
It'll most likely be the same result as the Chocolatito fight if he gets his shot for the winner of Bam/Gallo. Martinez's career has been pretty underwhelming and lackluster thus far. Pretty disappointing with how his career has been managed.
Martinez just keeps looking worse and worse. How many more chances is Martinez going to be given at this point? His career is hitting rock bottom.
I was about to bring this up. Vacated the belt my ass. He knew he was about to get stripped and wanted to save himself some dignity.
Boxrec still hasn't changed the victory to a NC. However I noticed that Martinez has another loss added to his record. Apparently his pro debut was in 2013, in a fight where he was stopped. This revelation made me double check of some Martinez' fights. His fights with Rosales and Gonzalez listed his record with just one defeat. In the Carmona fight with two after the Gonzalez loss. In the fight against Cordova, he was listed with three defeats. I remember a similar thing happened with Juan Francisco Estrada, a couple of unlisted wins where added to his record when he was a flyweight.
I really liked JCM. He fought regularly, he had good power and his fights were exciting. He never seemed quite the same after Roman Gonzalez took him to school. Hopefully, he can get his act together and give himself one more chance at a belt.
