I just looked at chavez jr's record its 34 wins (27ko) 0 losses. why isnt he getting a title shot. instead they talking about him fighting alfonso or gatti. are they padding up his record to make it look like the legendary JC's. the guys never even been 12 rounds. he should've got a crack at som1 like dela hoya 5 fights ago and should have been number 1 by now if he beat him that is. and what about corry spinks instead he's rankeed number 49 by boxrec and is fighting totally the wrong opposition. som1 like jose celaya huz ranked 73. THEY JUST PADDING HIS RECORD UP.
He is very much a work in progress, without an amateur career. Give the boy another year or so before they really step him on up. He is only 21 still...
i am so sick of hearing this nonsense.. 1 - he has no amature fights 2 - he is learning as he goes along i just got done watching a fight of his when he was like 11 years old, and that sure as hell wasnt his first fight, and he had been trained damn good... and he was a KID... He has plenty of experiance to be stepping it up by now.... im not saying a title shot because to be frank he aint never gonna win a title, but at least step it up.
Thats not news.He was relatively late to boxing. He has no amateur career and has learnt his trade as a pro.He does fight consistently and often and has grown through the divisions because he is learning as a pro.We dont yet know what weight he will settle at and naturally despite his padded record the jury is out because his fought no one of any note.BUT he does continue to win which is a good thing. His last KO of Sanchez did make me take some note. His never going to be as good as his dad but he`ll certainly make a bit of noise once he hits his mid 20`s.His young and has plenty of time on his side.As long as he stays busy he`ll stay sharp.
Kirk having a ATG dad and a few fights and training as an 11 year old is NOT the same as having an Amateur career. Having a few fights as an 11 year old is NOT the experience required to step it up to a world level and compete with the best fighters.Id like to see him step it up to but it wont happen yet.
ok so it doesnt provide you with an amature career... but lets say he started training at 10 years old... or 9.. cuz he looks more like 10 in this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=FHiifqfxmsA he has now had 11 YEARS of training... and over 34 pro fights... god this guy gets more excuses then anyone ive ever seen... im sorry i just cant accept that.
and wikepedia says that he had a short amature career... so where does it come from that he has NO amature experiance?
Kirk theres nothing difficult to understand about him not having an Am career.Id like to see him step up as thats what professionals do.Buts lets be real he only gets attention because his living of his fathers name sake. Just because his dad may have held up the pads for him a few time and got him some sparring matches as a kid doesnt qualify him in the slightest to make big waves as a pro. These are not excuses there facts. To be honest i dont think he`ll make any waves even when he does step up.But thats just my opinion. We wont know the deal for certain until he does. But one thing is certain after 40 plus fights he wont be able to continue to fight the cab drivers that he fights routinely. But his dad is certainly a worthy coach and im pretty sure he knows exactly what his doing with his son.
I wouldnt pay too much attention to Wiki. Last week they reported that Jones had beaten Tito by KO in 8 prior to the fight even happening.
To be honest...I love the way they are bringing this kid up. He is still very young, and as stated above had no amateur experience. I wish more young boxers would be brought up like this. They are facing many styles and are learning the trade the way the old-timers learned. IMO...unless you have a very extensive amateur career...there is no reason why these guys shouldnt have 40 professional fights before they fight for a title. Oh yeah, bringing them up slowly like this also builds confidence...which we all know is one of the key ingredients to being a good champion.
The key here isnt the amount of fights its the consistency with which he fights. His ALWAYS in training and his always in the ring.Thats what keeps him sharp. He fights 5-6 times a year.Thats throw back stats right there. Im not sure how far he can go and am doubtful but to fight often is the correct way to bring up a champion.
scurla hes been a pro now for almost 4 years.... and has like 110+ professional rounds in the books... thats A LOT of training, and a LOT of sparring, and a LOT of fighting... adding to that, he knew how to box when he was 10 years old... its obvious in the fight with paez jr he didnt just have a lil training... he was well schooled at 10. and im with you scurla bud... i dont think he makes noise.. maybe at 140 he could... but i see him being too big there, 147 he has no chance... maybe 154
The problem here is his a bit of a tweener. His very tall.Much taller than his dad.At 5ft 10 and still growing at 21 he wont be able to stay at the lower weights like 140. If i recall he turned pro at 130 so that weights an impossibility. But as he goes up in weight his chances get slimmer and slimmer. His VERY easy to hit, defensively is quite poor and his power is although decent is fairly average. Ironically he may be better of at 54 because its a bit of a wasteland at present. He wont be fighting any of the old vets like Forrest or DLH anytime soon and i believe Cory Stinks is the recognised number 1. He may be able to pick up the WBO there if his lucky but i dont see him achieving much more than that.
They keep building his record up just like his father. I think they plan on getting him a title shot sometime late next year.
