Are you saying Tony Thompson should use Carl Thompson's game plan against Haye in his fight against Wlad, or....wait..what are you saying???
atsch I got my guys mixed up, it was clearly an error on my part, thanks for pointing that out, I was to quick to jump gun and got the Thompsons' mixed up.
Actually, Thompson is very much like Ray Austin - old, limited, and undserving. I expect Wlad to do pretty much the same thing to him he did to Ray.
I don't think it will be as ez as Austin was. Thompsons a more agile athlete. I'm just hoping he's not too nervous come fightnight & can perform at his best. It will take that & a bit more to chop down Wlad, but its been done before & TT seems like he's got the head to put on a good battle & not fold in a title fight. BTW, your gif file of Fraudley going down. Could you imagine what happens if that fight is done with Peter & him? Is he nuts!?
Thomson is tuff but you can't believe he has the skill level to compete with Wald ... the only reason he is even in the ring with Wald is because there no one else in the Heavy weight devision to fight .. The guy has no amateur back ground and this is his first time fighting at this level .. He going to get his asss Starched
Thompson is nothing Vlad hasn't seen before. Big deal he is a southpaw, Klitschko has like 150 amatuer fights. Thompson doesn't have big punching power and so he doesn't have a chance against Vlad. He is not going to outbox Klitschko, not even close. The fight is a mismatch.
Wlad stops the Giant 100%. Wlad will lose steam on his punches from punching up but his handspeed and foot movement would be the story of the fight. Chagaev was landing that looping left anytime he let it go by showing the a little foot movement. However, Ruslan was throwing single punches while Wlad likes to get off with quick combinations. He also has far more power and better handspeed than the White Tyson. Unlike Sultan, Valuev is stationary and there to be hit. He stands straight up and will not back up making a very hittable target. Moreover, Valuev doens't have the athleticism of a young Sam Peter and cannot constantly pressure. Valuev has not vastly improved like many claim. Sergie was shot and offered nothing just letting Valuev jab him all night. Chagaev already exposed his weaknesses: handspeed and movement.
George Foreman claims that shorter fighters who punch up actually throw the harder shots. They plant their feet and punch up at a chin that is more exposed because it is above the shorter fighter and hence easier to hit on the button so to speak. When punching down at someone the chin is more protected if the guy just tucks his head. Anyway that's what I heard Big George discuss at length when he was a color commentator for HBO. Is he full of it or does he have a point?
interesting stuff. i can see how the point of the chin would be more exposed but shooting down seems like u can generate more momentum. im far from an expert, but wouldn't more areas of the head be exposed or easier to touch when punching downward or at least providing a better angle of attack? :think i dont know how reliable foreman is. i've never heard a man contradict himself more than Big George. :nut
One of the points Foreman made was that the shorter guy can actually plant both feet and thus generate more power when punching up with more likelihood of landing squarely on the taller opponents chin, which is in his contention is the weakest part of the head. A punch to the tip of the chin shortcircuits the brain and the man just falls in a lump. I realize, however, that Big George is a bit of a contrarian and likes to give opposite opinions to others just for the hell of it, although, in this instant he went on to discuss this in great detail and I found it interesting and plausible. I mean the guy fought for years and was usually the taller fighter so he should know.
I know it's never a good idea to unload all your weapons and go for broke right from the start but I'm starting to believe that this is may be the only way to challenge Wladimir Klitschko. Think about it...NOBODY is gonna outbox him. If you stay outside and wait for opportunities (ones that probably won't come) he's gonna jab u silly. If you're gonna try and take him into "deep waters" then u better have a good chin because there's a fight going on in the meantime and chances are he's the one doing most of the punching. Go for broke early. Prepare for a 3 or 4 round fight and fire all your guns within that frame. Take your chances and if you don't stop him, well, he was probably gonna knock you out anyway.
By the way, did anybody see those pics of the Klitschko brothers eating with Thompson and Goosen in the Ukrainian restaraunt? The heavyweight champ inviting his challenger to dine with him? I used to root against WK but it's becoming more and more difficult to do so cuz he's such a likeable guy.
