Not easy to give props for fighters after a Bernard Hopkins fight. He makes fights ugly, he makes opponents look bad, he makes them fight a slow pace, lot of inside fighting, holding, everything... but he's doing it - it's called a way of winning even if it's definitely not beautiful to watch - like very few in boxing history and he's doing it at 43. Now you can either vote if you feel you've lost respect for any or both fighters - or if you respect them more. Let me start: I have the utmost respect for both!
I did as well until BHop's comments afterwards. Be interesting to see if he is more humble when the andrenalin has subsided.
Why to respect them? For me Hopkins -just looked great at 43, especially his timing (look at the KD) and the speed was there. Good power also. Evander Holyfield is just 2 years older and he's not on the P4P list, is he? -he made Calzaghe fight his fight -I think he would whoop Taylor's and Pavlik's ass at 168. I'd pick him vs. the Roy Jones of 2008. Tarver and Johnson are already on his list Calzaghe: -he did better vs. Hopkins than anyone since Roy Jones incl. Taylor, Winky, Tarver, Oscar or Tito. Landed more and got caugth with less -altough Hopkins made fight his fight, Calzaghe was still busy, neutralized the great Hopkins right in the 2nd half of the fight and made a good finish -it was his LHW DEBUT! -it was his US DEBUT! -it was his DEBUT VS. A CURRENT P4Per! -GOT UP FROM THE CANVAS TO WIN - just like JMM in the PacMan fight(s)
I lost respect for Hopkins, as if I ever had any after the comment he made about losing to a white boy. He cheated throughout by holding, holding & hitting, aiming for the back of the head, low blows, faked low blows, etc. The icing on the cake was how he couldn't even accept that he lost................:rofl Priceless.
You forgot to add that he beat Hopkins on the cards with 3 American judges, one of whom is certainly blind.
