Well if you've mastered skipping rope to the level of your mastery of the English language then you are clearly the person I should come to for advice. You coming after me for this is laughable considering you started a thread asking how to train while also holding down a job. Thanks to everyone else for the helpful advice, however, much appreciated.
Mastering skipping?? Nope too busy trying to improve my boxing which is what im after, im sure your after that aswell.... why else join a boxing gym. And i didnt ask how to train while working i asked for how others manage it to see if maybe there way is better and maybe i can implend some ideas i havent though off. And i did admit in my original post i have made dumb threads
Look man, all I was asking for is help with one particular exercise that is a focus at the gym, albeit mainly in the warm up. I'm not saying that by being able to skip like Tyson that I'll be able to punch like him. All I'm trying to do is improve my coordination, endurance and foot speed. I am well aware that nobody wins a boxing match by being better at skipping rope, but I'm a believer in the idea that focusing on perfecting the little things sets the foundation for improving everything that comes off of it. You're obviously more experienced in this game than I am, but that's why I'm on the training/amateur board... to try and pick up pieces of advice from those with real boxing experience. I'm trying to learn, not get in pissing matches with other posters.
First off good for you for committing to training whether you plan to compete or not. As far as the question at hand .... http://rosstraining.com/jumpropeconditioning.html Thank Me Later!
Very well put. Add that to your own hunger of wanting to learn this difficult sport and you'll be where you want to be with nothing but practice. Don't sleep linked you up with a good reference. Personally, I don't use the rope for endurance/stamina. I focus on coordination and balance. Much like learning to dance.
make sure you do stretching before skipping this will help your body relax ,this may help find the rhythm & help not get a injury
I'm far better at skipping than I am at boxing and the best advice I can give you if you're struggling is to make sure it's light handled speed ropeds you're using. Those heavy wooden or plastic handled ropes make your arms sore and are an unnecessary hindrance when you're starting out. Listen for the crack on the floor and try to lift your feet to an absolute minimal height. You're not the first to struggle with skipping and you won't be the last. Stick in there,we've all been there.
