Dumb question, but I`ve been hearing a lot about the importance of having a good surface when skipping and how it could even affect and tear the rope if done somewhere like concrete.

I just bought a pretty decent boxing jump rope and don`t want to tear it but, is it really that bad skipping on concrete? As of now I really don`t have any other options besides dirt and grass. I don`t want to spend more money on a yoga mat or anything and want some input.

Look you need a surface that gives a little. Go to a lumber yard and get a plywood board and skip rope on it. A plywood board is not that expensive and many pro's use them.

if u can aaalbert i recommed skipping in a boxing ring. from my experience skipping on extremely hard surfaces is really hard on your knees as far as ropes breaking it makes no difference what so ever

put some cardboard down or some old carpet is best
enough to skip on that will save your rope if you are skipping on concrete
