He'll always be a big favorite of mine. I have almost every bio and autobiography about the man. Fascinating person. Still the no 1 guy I'd want next to me in a street fight!
**** this makes me feel old. I remember the day he died back in the early 80's. It was all over the news. He was a guy that transcended his sport without a doubt.
One of my all time favorites! Met him back in the early 1970's while in high school. Got a chance to meet him and shake his hand at his restaurant in NYC. Too cool.
The man was a LEGEND! His story, from riding the rails, fighting on an empty stomach many times, smashing the giant Willard down 7times and finally becoming heavyweight champion of the world! You couldn't make up his story and make it sound anymore fantastic tbh. What a guy.!
Forgot about this birthday......a complete legend....and most interesting life story in boxing history...most dramatic fighter ever...couldnt make his life up...best of all he was a gentleman!
Yes absolutely one of best things about living in the new york area was to go and see jack dempsey and maybe then go see nat Fleischer or nat loubet at the ring...gone with the wind
