Can someone tell me a bit about this fighter. I'm currently watching some of his fights, and I'm impressed by what I'm seeing. He seems to throw a lot of shots, but avoids looking amateurish in the process. What was Chang's strengths and weaknesses? Where he does rank in the all time rankings at Light Flyweight?

Chang is a bit like a less technically refined Duran... think Duran from circa Dejesus rematch stylistically.

A great swarmer with very good handspeed and terrific footspeed that could box very well when he choose to as well, albeit in an unorthodox manner.

When he's on point, has a great defensive radar for a swarmer, and slips punches instinctively without letting his offense suffer. This made him extremely hard to time.Like Harada at his best, very few fighters would be able to outbox him.

Solid puncher, but overall definitely a volume guy and not a one-shot hitter.Wasn't always the prettiest puncher either, but the unorthodoxy of his attack worked in his favour imo.

weaknesses would be mainly a Benitez' like lack of dedication that saw him get by on natural talent alone rather than work ethic. His style could suffer, notably on the defensive end if he was out of shape, but this mostly only became a factor towards the end of his title reign.

Came back out of retirement badly in need of money and was a shadow of his former self, but briefly managed to hit a groove once he had shaken off the rust against Chitalda and Kittikassem. Both impressive efforts considering what he had left. Also think the Gonzalez fight was a bit closer than cards indicated.

Basically one of the sports great natural talents and one of the best asian fighters and Flyweights ever.Arguably the most underrated '80s fighter as well.

Thk you o wisened one. Yes Addie MAB, Chang was a good fighter. A swarmer w/out the big punchola. I really would compare him almost exactly in style and looks of style to an Asian Vinny Pazienza. They fought almost exactly alike and I believe Jung was once known as the Korean Paz! Both on the same level skill and record wise although the Haugon trilogy of blood far exceeds ANYTHING Koo was capable of. Chang was known to be freaky-deaky like Leon and a party guy like Vinny. Both guys were rxciting but limited middle of the road working class heroes who overachieved due to an abundance of hunger. And caffiene.

lol! You told me you had Chang’s career set? Yet your analysis smacks of having never seen him. Lol contrast to Paz that was good....caffeine boost as well.

I can actually see a little bit of Paz, they had some similar inside combinations, and some similar jerky, frenetic movements. I wouldn't say it was that close, though, and I'd say Chang had a much higher ability ceiling, and a different modus operandi. And was a much better boxer.

    And Duran beat Paz IMO.
