I had it 116-112 for Mchunu, but he was too cautious and wasn't aggressive enough. You can't go in there in the enemy's territory, in this case a Don King promoted event, and just do enough to win. Ray Mancini mentioned it in times how Mchunu had the ability to double and triple land on Makabu, but opted just to stay in the outside and box. Also his attitude towards Ilunga was just rude.

I'm very ****ing pissed that Mchunu lost.

As for Makabu. Looking at the WBC rankings you have Papin, Masternak, Gevor, Jack and Riakporhe in the top 10. Papin already lost to Makabu, Masternak is coming off two good wins, Gevor is about to face Kalenga for the vacant WBC Silver belt, Jack just made his cruiserweight debut and Riakporhe is probably still looking for development fights before he challenges for a world belt. Good chance some of these guys will be Makabu's next opponent.

I thought 8-4 Mchunu to a Draw is plausible. Do you think the shoved after the fight was because Mchunu knew he was going to be robbed? The corner seems to subdued before the scores were announced.

Canelo deserves credit if he fights and beats Makabu without any unfair advantages.

    A belt's a belt.

Thank you. I appreciate the advice on the @ sign. I had assumed that when people scoring a fight put close next to the score that it meant, in their minds, that it was swingable. Sometimes close, just means close. Thanks for the explanation.

It wasn’t a robbery, but Makabu did a great job of convincing me he isn’t worthy of a Canelo fight.

Au contraire....he did exactly that....prove himself to be a Canelo patsy.

Kind of late in the game to be making cool guy statements like that.

All of Canelo’s opponents looked pretty good leading up to their fights with him in the last few years except maybe for Yildirim who was somehow a mandatory.

    Makabu looked bad.

Well, don't you think by looking bad he's the guy that Canelo will pick for a CW belt? I mean if he looked awesome, a Mike Tyson looking ko last night surely he would have been eliminated as a possible opponent. Kovalev looked vulnerable vs Yarde and Boom! he gets picked (with four weeks to train after a tough fight) for Canelo to pick up a LHW belt.

That’s a false narrative. Kovalev looked very good against Eleider Alvarez and the contract for the Canelo fight was practically printed out before he fought Yarde. Canelo has not been fighting easy touches. If Kovalev is the best example you can come up with, that’s telling.

Maybe they could put him in against a chinny guy on the Charlo—Canelo undercard or something. He looked like a glorified journeyman last though.

He has a trainer? If he does I'd keep it quite, a treadmill could do a better job.

Mchunu is Zulu. There's a lot of bad blood between them and the Congolese immigrant community in SA. It's more than likely got something to do with that.
