Fun fight. Reminded me of Jirov vs Toney a little bit. Mchunu had the skills to completely outclass Makabu, but he kept getting backed up by Makabu's ponderous jab and thudding shots to the body, and showed no urgency in the last few rounds to get the judges' nod (though I'm sceptical he would have got it regardless).

Makabu looked ponderous and off-balance, but had enough workrate to keep himself in the fight. I don't think the decision was terrible as a lot of the rounds were hard to score, but there was clearly some home cooking going on.

 

I was at the Eider fight and yes he looked good. But the Yarde fight was tough...he got knocked down I'm pretty sure.

The SMWs Canelo fought weren't exactly Roy Jones but that wasn't Canelos fault. Now it's time to step and fight a true, tough opponent. Not GGG...he's used goods but probably the best in terms of $$$.

This fight ended up being a tale about things that didn't happen. Mchunu was quicker and more athletic but spent way too much time not throwing punches. Makabu plodded ahead, looking slow and a bit old. He had his left hand ready to throw all fight long but he never threw it with any kind of intensity or power.

I had the fight 115-114 Mchunu. I scored the pathetic excuse of a 12th round a draw. When you leave it up to the judges there is always a chance they will pick quantity of punches over quality. Mchunu could have won this fight on quality and quantity with just a bit more activity.

 

Charlo is a much better opponent than Makabu.

 

I agree....but would a belt be involved? Seems like that's all that Canelo wants anymore.
But it would be a good test for both of them,

 

I have seen clips of them doing some pretty crazy terrible stuff to the Somali immigrants too.

 

Yarde had him reeling and looking hurt in the 8th, but Sergey definitely never took a count in that one.
