what you guys think of these guys? i always associate these guys with each other. they were all skilled fighters and all four of them had some terrific fights. i think they're all underrated now. mckinney was a real good win for barrera (and a terrific fight). ncita and bungu in particular were pretty underrated technicians imo. they would easily school someone like juan manuel lopez.

Agreed with everything you said except this.

Lopez has never been "schooled" and hasnt showed signed of easily being schooled.

What happened to Bungu after he suffered serious stage fright the night he was layed out by Prince Naseem Hamed? I do remember thinking before that fight that Hamed had actually picked a quality opponant.

Bungu totally crapped himself that night before that huge audience at wembley stadium i thought, the occasion overwhelmed him and Hamed put him on his back inside 4

lopez hasn't looked good since.... forever. washed up penalosa was the closest thing he fought to these guys and he was tagging him easily

yeah he looked terrible in that fight. had almost zero sharpness. bungu was a pretty small fighter though and the move-up wasn't good for him

McKinney/Ncita I was a hell of a bout in particular, with one of the biggest "WTF?" KO's I've ever seen. Totally out of the blue, that one.

Bungu and Ncita were pretty similar stylistically, in my opinion. Both tight, well schooled, sharp punching pressure fighters, while McKinney and Jones were more of the stand-up, jab, one-two variety. McKinney probably a little smoother technically with Jones being more of the physical specimen which saw him overwhelm McKinney at times during their bout.

McKinney probably came off best of the bunch, having beaten both Jones and Ncita, while losing the close bouts to Bungu.

I agree 100% that any of these men would've had to have been favored over the decidedly ordinary Lopez, who's never been impressive in my eyes.

Junior Jones had an ATG right hand in my opinion.

Morales spoke highly of it in a recent interview, saying it was the hardest he had ever been. Quite a compliment coming from Morales.

Jones was kind of like a pint sized, poor man's Tommy Hearns.

yeah hearns was the epitome of that kind of style. jones was still a good fighter though and his right hand was pretty dynamic despite being relatively basic technically.

bungu and ncita i have no doubt would pick off lopez on the inside where he is incompetent.

Bungu was pretty shot by the time he fought Hamed to be fair.He was inactive and had looked terrible in some of his previous title defences(against Romero and Gray).

N'Cita had a bit of an Ali/Terry Norris/Chitalada bouncy mobile outside boxer thing going on as well as being able to mix it up.I thought he was often a bit sloppy/disjointed though.

All good fighters.Add in Ledwaba as well; a capable, if methodical and light hitting cutie...he would have been a lot tougher forsomeone like Morales and was a bit unlucky to run into the hulking weight drainer.THe south African fighters tended to be hampered by a lack of punching power that would really have benefited their styles.

reminds me of another south african matlala. they all had good skills but were so underwhelming in terms of physicality in the ring. and ncita was the only above-average athlete of these imo.

Ill go with the brooklynite as my favorite. He did have a nice righthand that he threw out of an awkward stance. If his chin was a little better, he could have done alot more.

Junior Jones was an absolute beast and would certainly KO Juanma.
