Given that JP started 3-4 years ago, and TF has been doing this since he was a child, I think it's clear that the relatively small gap in skills shows that JP is a more naturally gifted fighter

I'd go along with this. Jake Paul is good for a youtuber who hasn't been boxing long, whereas Tommy Fury is shite for a pro who has been boxing his whole life. In the end the all that extra experience and schooling won through, but the fact the fight was competitive says a lot more about Fury and his level than it does about Paul.

Still, I don't begrudge Tommy Fury cashing in like this and he's not a bad lad by all accounts. He can batter KSI, rematch Jake Paul and walk away having made more money than 99% of world champions, without getting brain damaged in the process. So you can't really fault him.

Because they write for what's popular on social media and what editors think is important. It did my head in when I was at the BBC for a year, trying to build some tech that surfaced stories that were important to individuals. The argument then became "but how do we promote this stuff for editorial reasons" - women's football, gender causes, etc. Then because it's the BBC with a guaranteed audience, they can then claim those topics are popular and keep them going.

Anyway rant over, and it probably belongs in the entertainment news pages somewhere but not the sport. Be nice if they gave "oldest cruiserweight champion ever" a mention, especially when UK promoters will be queueing up to bring Jack over here next.

Fair play to Tommy and Jake…they coined it in and will in the rematch too. Standard can be critisised all you like but this was the likely the most watched and definitely talked about fight in 2023.

For me Tommy was slightly better than I expected and Jake was worse, but tougher, than I thought he would be. A big advantage for Tommy was training with Tyson-he knew how to tie Jake up and although lost a harsh point it was this together with a few eyecatching combinations that won the fight.

Paul’s trainers earn an absolute fortune from him yet haven’t seemingly learned him many of the basics!

If Tommy isn't a bad lad he'll do the right thing and give some of that money to honourable causes. He, his mug of a gf and his kid don't need all of that money. Everything about this fight has been solely capitalist greed, it's done nothing for the sport, it's probably going to do more damage because why be a Josh Taylor when you can be a Tommy Fury, a Jake Paul or a KSI? It's a joke and I think Tommy Fury is an embarrassment to the sport, years of training and big talk, years of taking steroids and he gets put down by a YouTuber and minutes later cries when he gets a split decision. People sitting there going "fair play" when we're going through a period of getting absolutely screwed by energy companies and the government, this is all bulls**to.

He 100 percent isnt and there was a lot more than a small gap in skill. He pretty much won every round and everyone knows hes not really taking boxing seriously over the years...only had something like 12 amatuer fights. Tommy would beat him 100 times out of 100 tho.

Jake pauls a decent athlete and hes knuckled down and worked hard these last 3 or 4 years with top class training camps etc. Hes not exactly a naturally gifted fighter in any way tho. Just a pretty decent athlete thats worked hard at it with training camps most professionals would love to have.

Think both are a couple of space cadets....especially tommys speech at the end etc. But in fairness outside of the politics of it all both come out with a bit of credit. Tommy looked better than i thought he was and jake took his hits well think he fell into the same trap a lot of us did....thinking tommy was completely useless based off the ridiculously bad level of competition hes fought so far.

Hes better than his record suggests. Still novicey at times but thats exactly what he is in the grand scheme of things. Jake pauls pretty much reached his limit in terms of potential...tommy has a good bit more albeit at the lower end of boxing as opposed to being the next world champion.

Your stretching with this reply. You thought he,d pull out to save himself from being embarrased from jake paul.

Reading your post back you pretty much called it completely wrong. Instead of admitting you called it all wrong completly you,ve basically double downed to save your own embarasement. Give the man his credit he proved you completely wrong.

Jake paul wont win any rematch.

I,ll be fair to you tho it was a hard fight to pick. I,ve only really seen tommy fight the last boy and he looked pretty useless tbf. Think it was a guy from the ufc or something like that. Also thought there was a reason they picked tommy. They thought he was a complete pudding based off his competition hes fought so far.

Hes better than his record suggests tho. Tommys definetely not a pudding. He probably is in the grand scheme of things but hes better than most people thought myself included.

Regarding the pull-out, check the date I posted the thread. Tommy actually did pull out of the original fight date (despite insisting he wouldn’t) so I was actually correct on that.

I got the outcome wrong but the general assessment was hardly inaccurate. He was undoubtedly in trouble in there as I predicted - knocked down by a jab and a winner by SD.

I have actually given Tommy credit in this thread for his fitness which was impressive, notwithstanding it was an 8-rounder only. His output was high yet he didn’t tire at all which is to his credit. However he consistently made basic fundamental errors like walking back in straight lines and with his hands down which is why he got his by the left hook so often.

If there’s a rematch I can’t see Tommy making too many adjustments to either win by stoppage or win more decisively. Paul on the other hand as a guy who is still learning and developing - if he was to work on his fitness and increase his output he’d have a better chance of nicking more rounds. I’m pretty confident after seeing that fight that Paul is the harder puncher in there.

He wasnt in any trouble. He got caught with a jab going in off balance. The split decision was also a joke. He won pretty much every round comfortably....barring the off balance knock down and the point deduction. Paul wont beat tommy. because tommys an all round better fighter. They wont be able to do much more with paul at this stage...because hes the limited fighter of the two.

Tommys fitness was impressive because he knows how to box unlike paul who works hard in camp....but cant really box apart from being a half decent athlete thats worked hard at it.

I think its pretty well known tommy hasnt really taking boxing all that seriously until this fight anyway and jake pretty much has. But the reality is tommy knows how to box and jake doesnt although in fairness hes put the work in and made himself a hard nights work for anyone at a lowish level of boxing more due to the professional style training camps etc.
