Hatton changed his excuse for not fighting Witter two or three times at least. When it comes down to it, Hatton wanted none of Junior.

Not true at all. Hatton fought some real scrubs at the time Witter was wanting a scrap.

Witter was calling him out like this for years, in the papers and on the radio. Ricky changed his excuse two or three times.

Nice list but firstly, before the Tszyu fight Witter was British, Commonwealth and European champion. Hatton was fighting past-it Americans for the WBU belt.

Secondly, Witter holds the WBC belt in the period when he fights Urango, Castillo and Mayweather. With Laczano being 2 weeks after Witter lost to Bradley. Take away Witter's mandatories and Urango was the fight Hatton should've dropped if he wanted to fight Witter.

What it shows me is that Hatton was more interested in big tv names and his undefeated record than fighting the best in his weight class

i meant witter wanted hatton before hatton became champion, witter was after him when they were both in the domestic scene.

    Witter couldn't get fights.

Embarrased himself by being too negative at the age of 26 against Judah

Won a WBO eliminator at 28 - got nowhere.

European champion at 30, including beating Kotelnik.

Finally gets a 'vacant' shot at 32.

Loses for the first time in 8 years at 34

not discrediting witter at all all im saying is that hatton had a different picture in mind. but i dont look at that as ducking. i think prime for prime hatton would have beaten him but i geuss we shall never know

Can someone make a strong case to me why Hatton was justified in ducking Witter when he was WBU champ and fighting cans ?

As bad as it sounds.....I honestly don't fault Ricky for ducking. Witter was a no-name that would have generated very little revenue, but at the same time would have given Ricky a world of trouble. If there was a ever fight that would be labelled 'massive-risk, low-reward', this was it. Had he faced and lost to him, Ricky would never have been the box-office star he was.

Hatton was a huge star while Witter was not.

Witter kept calling out Hatton like Hatton was a bum, not showing any respect, so I don't think Hatton wanted to give Witter that payday.

I guess before Hatton got his big fight against Tszyu, Witter was seen as high risk low reward. After that Hatton had bigger fish to fry.
