OK so whats the big deal about everyone suddenly saying that Hatton was ducking Witter and would get KTFO by him. Before the Floyd Mayweather fight absolutely no-one was saying that Hatton was ducking Witter, and quite rightly, because the notion that Hatton is avoiding Witter by facing the best P4P fighter on the planet is ****ing preposterous. But now? Oh its a different story, all of a sudden he's been ducking Junior Witter for 10 years, and he's bound to get his arse handed to him by Witter. All these Hatton-haters looking to kick a man when he's down by suggesting that Witter would demolish him. You obviously haven't seen Witter fight if you believe such a thing. People are saying "How can Hatton claim to be the best in the world at 140lbs when he's not even the best in his country" and then adding "well if he's the best in britain, why's he scared to proved it?" Lets take a look at british boxing history. When Ricky Hatton fought Eamonn Magee that was to decide who the best in Britain was. Junior Witter didn't even figure into things back then. Infact the fight was even called that, Battle of Britain, or something. Eamonn Magee was a much classier fighter than Witter ever will be, better chin, better timing, much better at countering, stronger and a harder hitter. Junior Witter is a good fighter but not a great one. The fact he is a champion is testament to the exodus of talent towards Welterweight, not to his skill.He fights with the Brendan Ingle style, which bears a resemblence to Prince Naseem Hamed, Herol Graham and Johnny Nelson. When he fights british/euro level opposition he looks ****ing devastating because he's not scared to attack. Against the likes of Guiseppe Lauri he looked like Prince Naseem. But once he comes up against someone with real class he fights like Johnny Nelson and stinks out the joint. Which goes some way to explaining why he has so few fans. Against Zab Judah he was defensive and negative. Against Demarcus Corley he was very negative and cautious for long periods of the fight. Even against Vivian Harris he was reluctant to push himself, despite Harris being way past his best. Whenever he comes up against someone with real quality he doesnt look so great. He's also getting old and his reflexes are getting worse. He got caught with too many needless shot against Harris and cant get away with avoiding shots with his head-movement and reflexes at world-class level anymore. His stamina is suspect because he takes rounds off and lets his foot off the gas far too often. In short, he's a good fighter, not a great one, and nothing like as good as Hatton. Watch Naseem Hamed versus Marco Antonio Barrera and you will see how a fighter with heart, relentless forward momentum and aggression totally ****s up the Ingle style. Ricky Hatton is Junior Witters worst nightmare. Witter would get KTFO by Hatton and anyone who knows british boxing for the last 5 or 6 years knows this. Anyone who has paid attention knows that Witter has been calling Hatton for the past 5 years because he knows its the only realistic chance to get a big payday in his entire career. Hatton hasn't obliged him because he doesn't like the fact that Witter has disrespected him. I'd love to see them fight, but if they were too fight it would be a mere tune-up for Hatton. I consider Paulie Malinaggi and Juan Diaz more dangerous fights for Hatton. Malinaggi has good workrate, good chin, an excellent jab and fast hands, something which could pose Hatton problems. Witter's only problem is that he is awkward and slippery, but he would still lose.
Hatton has been ducking him for years. It's not like Hatton had to suddenly choose between Witter and Floyd and decided to go with the easy option in Floyd. Hatton always said he wanted to give his massive fanbase the best fights....then in reality fought the likes of Vilches and Pedersen instead of Junior. He's a fraud.
