Except for Margarito himself, and a few close friends and relatives, I don't think anyone really believes Antonio could beat Floyd. But many may agree he deserves a chance to try. Most would contend he is more deserving of a shot at Mayweather than DeLaHoya anyway.

    Exactly!

I'm not saying that Margarito will win . . . but he certainly deserve the shot. Unfortunately Floyd ducked the guy. :yep

While PBF didn't fight him when Marg was still a belt holder . . . I don't think it would happen now that Marg already lost his belt.

What did he do to deserve the shot? Floyd was only AVAILABLE as of now, and Margarito ruined any kind of credibility he had for fighting the top dog Welterweight by LOSING HIS TITLE!

It has to do with matchups. Something you don't seem to grasp. And no, you aren't very realistic.

Margarito definitely deserves a shot at Floyd. I believe it would be a very entertaining fight and competitive as well.

Many people make it seem as if Margarito got annihilated by Williams, when in fact, he lost a very close decision. If Margarito is such a bum, then why did Floyd turn down 8M guaranteed to fight him. Margarito has defeated more top 10 welterweights than any current WW has, and has been ranked in the top 10 WW by Ring magazine for the past several years. So yes, he does deserve a shot.

I don't like Margarito's style a lil bit because he simply can't fight any other way and even in the way he does, he can't give angles to it or defend himself... But he is very commited to the fight and has impressive physical attributes, excellent conditioning ( works hard in the gym, runs 12 miles a day or else he would be the first to admit it) and he places some punches with accuracy and leverage but what I like most about him is the fight spirit - it transpires in his fights, that he has the cojones to make it exciting like any HBO, Showtime broadcaster acknowledges and please check it out on tape - now, it would be stupid to say he would do on Mayweather the things he does with others... But, it would be even more stupid to say that Mayweather would have an easier time with him than with Baldo, Zab, Hatton or even Hoya at this point. I see Floyd landing at will on Margo but once two meaty body shots get in, it's Mayweather cruising all the way... Look at Mayweather and at Margarito side by side - it's even scary to imagine Tony landing on Floyd... Once again, I am not a Margarito fan but I prefer to see him with Cotto - like Bob Arum said in the post Margo-Clottey fight interview with Jim Gray " There's no bigger fight in Boxing ( in this weight class)".

That's a huge mistake in my eyes, knuckles, he has skills but he punches like he's under water ( exception taken to the two shots he wails away to the body). He has been down three times in his career against Perez, Gonzales and somebody else and he can go down with a flush shot from Zab or with one of those Cotto's monster left hooks like another slow mexican did - Andrade against Mack in the first - but who are exactly these top welters that would trash him? He took all that Clottey could land ( including head-butts) until the sharp ghanian shooter "broke" both hands, and Clottey is supposed to beat Cintron... Cintron got trashed in the true sense of the word by Margo... Williams could not do any better than he did against Tony ( again took away five or six rounds)... There are only Cotto, Mosley, ( Zab???) and Mayweather left. Mayweather would break his fragile hands on Margo's head of course. If this goes to the point that Berto and Gomez beat Margo, I'm outa here.

So you are telling me that Paul Williams "punished" him with multiple soft jabs, speedy counter lefts and short hooks and a 20% connect rate and that Margarito didn't fight until that 7th round cuz he was afraid to let his hands go? I question you back if that is true how come Margo smiled at him in the end of the fourth after connecting, never stepped back or was pressed backwards and had a mouse developing under PW's left eye in the sixth? At least, you admit that you dislike and underrate him... That is a good enough reason to consider that he would be trashed by four 147 pounders ( since he was not by one of them already)... I suggest that his name gets to be mentioned so much around here simply because some get shocked the way others dismiss him that much - and I believe there are some of his fans in the mix too... You and me know that he is supposed to fight at least one of your top welters and that it would be intelligent to confirm whether he gets trashed or not afterwards... I personally think it's stupid to hold back everything we have to say up until then in a Boxing Forum but if this subject is so offensive to your intelligence, I promise not to discuss it whenever you ( only you, knuckles) post something concerning AM.
