I think he misses the point. Yeah, there are haters who want some/ most fighters to fail, but most critics actually want (certain) overrated hype-jobs to fight underrated dangermen who could beat them! And they don't! They duck/dodge those fighters/fights and fight bums/overrated hype-jobs/past-it NAMES instead...so the frustration gets ever bigger as those fighters' ego gets ever bigger...and sometimes boils over into wishing they were brought down to earth a bit. If fighters fought their mandatories, looked for the biggest challenges once they were at the top of their game, and didn't run their mouth about being better than anyone in the world having beaten only bums, not many people would have much reason to complain, would they?
the fans are to blame for this type of attitude more than the fighters. Fighters just do whatever will get them paid the most. boxing is not about charity. its a career and people wanna get paid. If fans are whining about fighters' attitudes then they should put their dollars where their mouths are.
And they do! By talking duckers/hype-jobs down, trying to convince everyone who'll listen to give those fighters and their fights little regard, and praising fighters who fight the best, so that they become more popular and more of a draw with casual fans. This is all for the "sake of the sport"...it makes sense!
praising fighters who fight the best regardless of risk/reward is fine, but insulting fighters who are giving the average fan what he wants, trying to make the best of their career even if its not in the interest of the sport is stupid. imo its ok to insult the fans, but not the fighters, who are generally just responding to the demands of the majority of fans.
It's not stupid, if you're a hard-core fan who wants to see the best fights rather than the most popular fights. On the contrary. If hard-core fans approved of fights like DLH v. Pac, boxing would turn into a WWF style thing, and it would be very much more popular with casual fans because the most popular fighters would never lose in upsets, or would rarely fight meaningful fights instead.
so to you, either you approve of a fight, or you have to insult the fighters? i don't see it that way. I can disapprove of a fight and remain respectful towards the fighters.
There we have it. Thats exactly how it should be. Fighters deserve our respect. They are putting it all on the line for our entertainment.
I must admit that there is some truth in there...Not hating every fighter but to love a fighter more than the sport wich produce hate over every other fighter who might face the favorite one. INstead of just hoping for a good fight to watch...
I show my dissaproval of the fight and of the fighter who has chosen to short-change and lie to the fans by pretending he's fighting meaningful fights when he's not. There's this mantra that just because fighters do something dangerous, they should be respected as people, irrespective of what they are like/whom they fight/what they say outside the ring. I think that's stupid! I am not forcing them to fight! They are professional fighters; it's their job - they've chosen it themselves! So, as a paying customer, I reserved the right to express an opinion on them, professionally - whom they fight/how they fight/what they say about opponents, etc. What I have no right to do is direspect them for their private lives. That, I don't do.
Agreed...... It always amazes me how people get SO caught up in a particular fighter/team to the point where you would think they are on the payroll and that fighter COULD CARE LESS about ya... For instance, I may not like a fighter's particular style, recent choice of opponents, manipulance (DLH), but I'll NEVER deny him being a great great fighter...... It's like a bunch of posters on here are big "fangirl pussies"
I cannot ****ing believe people are legitimizing this dog****. Boxing fans, like any other sports fans, have their likes and their dislikes and are vocal about their favourites and vocal about those they do not like or respect - this does not equate to a blood-lust hoping every fighter gets ****ed up. We respect boxers, and like them and dislike them in equal measure. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in that. What is shameful is the way you began and presented this "thread". All those who have taken this seriously and replied - hang your heads in shame. To the thread-starter : Please log out, then **** off, and finally, die.
