Just after khan got ko'd by prescott, where did you see him going?

Yeah this is true, he did improve a lot technically under Roach, but my personal belief, that many probably won't agree with.. is that you could of taken Prescott out of that match, put in Kotelnik with the world title on the line and "old Khan" would still of won

 

Ok it was a big upset but it wasn't a massive surprise that Amir Khan at that stage got knocked out in one round. He was getting smashed all over the place in several of his fights before that and it was obvious to all that he wasn't ready to be a pay per view name, despite his popularity and marketability. In boxing terms, 'Khan' as a £15 ppv against some unknown Columbian was a joke and that's why I personally found it hilarious when Amir got destroyed in a minute. Nothing against Amir Khan because he's a good guy and you never want to see anyone badly hurt in the ring but it was genuinely funny at the time.

I can't remember what my initial after thoughts were about where he'd go. I guessed he'd get well matched again. As he did against ***an and an old Barrera. Both of those wins were a little dodgy (as in a broken ankle and a massive cut were the reasons Khan looked so spectacular). He then got a fight against the 'worst world champion' in Kotelnik and did well to win it so easily.

Another poor opponent follows and Dimitry Salita gets wiped out in a minute. At this stage I think Khan's career wasn't going much different to how most would have predicted (with an added WBA bauble).

From 2010 onwards though, Khan's career has been pretty good. Splitting with Warren and going to the states to fight Malignaggi and Maidana was brave at Amir's age but definitely made sense for his career and he's come off it far better.

He's getting a little overhyped at the moment though and the upcoming McCloskey fight will be a lot tougher than many think. After that we can hopefully see who's better between him and Bradley. Should be good :good

 

I know this is formed from your view that Khan, since the Prescott disaster, hadn’t actually improved that much when he faced Kotelnik. And that he did as well as he did, due to Roach and the strict game-plan he instilled in him. This is probably true.

But, I don’t think the old Khan would have beat Kotelnik – who since the Alexander fight, we now know to be a very good fighter. The old Khan would have stood with him – foolishly thinking he would eventually stop him. He wouldn’t have moved around the ring as much, he wouldn’t have utilized the jab he later developed, and he wouldn’t have placed much emphasis on a tight, high guard. As a result, he’d fall victim to Kotelnik’s patience, decent combinations from mid-range, and be taken into deep waters towards the end, possibly being stopped.

 

I think we all agree that Prescott was probably the best thing to happen to him, he totally re-invented his style nearly, especially in his ring craft, he doesn't stand and trade now.

When he got smashed, I saw it as some here, carefully matched against non punchers or smaller guys. I'm still miffed about the Barrera fight, complete sham. But breaking away from Warren and fighting big names in the states has earned my respect!

I remember Warren's whining on his column about it, he wanted big fights, get over it!

 

I predicted he would be unified 140 champion by August 2011 :yep

Nah, thought he could work his way to some kind of title shot in a few years but would lose it within 1 or 2 defences against a guy with a decent punch, which did nearly happen. Never would have thought he would beat the most powerful guy at 140 in a FOTY candidate!

I didn't write him off as badly as some people did :yep

Poor old faisal.

I thought myself that Khan was finished and had no future at world level so I'm surprised and impressed at what he's achieved since. Shows a lot of character.

 

I was sure he would come back but i never gave any thought to how long it would take him to get to world level. tbh i'm not overly impressed by 'zero' defeat records and i think there is too much attention paid to a fighter getting defeated. obviously the manner of defeat was very disappointing for him but i was sure that he would come back.

 

I had big doubts, mainly because I thought he'd stick with Warren and take the path of least resistance WBU gravy train route.

Didn't think he was finished because, hey, I'd already been down this road with Lewis in the nineties and stuck with him.

But still Impressed with what Khan's done.

I thought he was pretty much done, and would fade into obscurity.
