Just Because An Opponent Has Lost Or Isn't A Name Doesn't Invariably Make Them A Bum.

You need to check Boxed Ears' posts referencing the ESB FORUM USER MANUAL AND DICTIONARY, and you will see you are incorrect. There are 42 acceptable usage of the term "bum", and if you look at the finer print, there isn't a boxer alive today who isn't rightly considered a "bum".

I agree completely that is a good example of an actual bum.

    Great post by the OP.

I think a major problem with the word "bum" getting thrown down a lot is to do with the levels of boxing that certain fans watch.

Boxing is about levels. If you only watch the top guys and only care about guys who win world titles, or P4P fighters, then you will be more inclined to call fringe world level fighters, bums. If you watch boxing at all levels then you will have a better understanding of the different levels and the true worth of each fighter.

I do tend to find that at times the Brits have a better understanding of this as in our country our domestic title actually has some prestige within the boxing community of the U.K. The rankings aren't bad, mandatorys are often pushed for by the British Board of Control and most British title fights are televised. Even the European title gets a bit of respect. This gives the more hardcore fan an early glimpse of a fighter and gives them a better respect of the different levels of boxing; you will often hear us claim that a fighter is domestic level, Euro level, fringe world.

In other countries were there is no regional/continetal title and therefore no stepping stones to world level, it is hard to discern what level a fighter may be, therefore, for some people it is easier just to call all sub world level fighters, bums.

If you only watch world level boxing, fair enough, but, to label all below this as bums is not only wrong, but also disrespectful to the participants of a sport that you claim to be a fan of. Don't insult men far braver than you just because of your own ignorance.

Winning is the single most important part of your massively flawed algorithm, can't even be called an algorithm. Winning and in ring ability proven to perform at the highest levels, that's what separates the levels and true atg fighters and hof fighters and below
