Im looking to shed a few pounds...im currently 12 stone 8 pounds looking to get down to say 12 stone 3.

How long do you think I should run a day? At what pace? And how many times a week to help me achieve this goal by the end of the month?

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

well said diet is the most important factor when losing weight
go for contineous training so you burn more kcals count how many your taking in and aim how much your going to burn around that

I run 3 miles 3 times a week, I don't know if that helps shed weight or not because mine is fairly constant, but it keeps my endurance up a little.

Just start out slow and challenge yourself to increase your speed and distance as you get in shape. And of course eat healthy. :D

theres different kinds of running i might do a test actually
il see whether i burn more kcals doing 5mile fast 3times a week or 8mile not as fast 2 times a week(which is what ive been doing l8ly
though ive found 5 mile is better for fitness
8 mile is better for endurance and stamina
but il do a test and see if i burn more kcals doing fast 5mile 3 times or slower 8 mile twice im gonna do 1 next week the other the week after so you'll have to wait 2 weeks for results

My diet is already fairly good, I don't any crap put it that way.

Ive came down from 13 stone...mainly through skipping 6 3 minute rounds 3 times a week.

I thought the treadmill might help me in my quest though.

The diet is apparently very important. As for the treadmill, I'd save myself the time of going on 3 mile jogs and do some interval stuff. Jog for 1 minute and then sprint for 30 seconds. Find a comfortable speed for jog and sprint first, then repeat that pattern until your heart, lungs, or legs collapse.

Run at about 60% for as long as yo can go.
    Id recommend running outside.
    Much better
Also when running on treadmill put it on 1% incline
I heard this is like running outside

but I think he's want to burn fat. Intervals work your heart more than anything, if you're looking for weigh loss, slower, longer workouts will give him more results I think.

You could be right, I'm never too sure about this stuff. I thought that intervals were the best way to lose fat without losing muscle. If he just wants to lose weight (which will include both fat and muscle), distance running might be the answer.

Well don't take my word for it 100%, but I'm pretty sure that the best way to do that is HIIT. I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you better than I can.

I just read that running at a higher pace doesn't burn as much fat but your body burns calories for up to 24 hours after you are done. Where as when running at a lower intensity for longer period burns more fat but your body stops bruning calories as soon as you are done. Basically it said that for weight loss it doesn't really matter. So maybe jog at a reasonable pace and add some sprints in.
