Sure, but you should NOT be using outside shoes in a ring where people's gloves might touch the canvas then touch your eyes or where open cuts can touch the canvas. You wear Boxing shoes in the Boxing gym for feel, weight, and sanitary reasons. Not because somehow you can't do the same training in other shoes. If all you have is those and your coach/gym doesn't care? Knock yourself out. Seriously though man, how hard is it to come up on enough cash for a pair of Asic Matflex?
i hate boxing shoes. instead, i throw orthodixs in mine and they feel great. the problem is my feet are flat. this condition along with the shoes that have no support make me feel really un-athletic.
see the link below, these are on sale and they are great. The reason why wresting has better shoes is because more companies are investing in the sport since the market is larger. For example, almost every high school in the US has a team. therefore, there is just more investment in shoe quality and latest advancements. http://www.ringside.com/ASICS-Split-Second-V1-Wrestling-Shoes/productinfo/WS05/
i don't think he said that he was using the shoes for multiple purposes. converse and basketball shoes are used by many boxers. for sanitary purposes, how many gyms have you been too? when you talk about a general boxing gym, you are referring to a disgusting place where people sweat all day. do you really think a shoe used to play basketball with is going to make the place more dirty?
He's talking about bringing in a street shoe that could have a pebble or something else that could be dangerous if it gets stuck on someone's glove in the ring. And laugh if you will; but that's why in amateur boxing everytime your glove touches the canvas they both have to be wiped off on your jersey.
I use both regular shoes and boxing shoe, but I prefer the regular shoes but their hard to move around in the ring 'cause of the grip.... I use some Nike Flights, and boxing their some Nikes to
Hi.... Footwear is also the part of our boxing equipments..... A good footwear help a lot to get good results and performed well......
That is how I read it, but I said there is no problem with using a street shoe of any type for Boxing. Just anything that won't rip a hole in the canvas and gives you decent support. I know what you mean, and I wouldn't lick a heavy bag , but the fact is that sweat "dirty" and street dirty are two different things. As dirty as a Boxing gym is the assumption is that your street shoes should never touch the canvas. Same goes for wrestling. Though I am not naive enough to believe the rule is followed or makes a world of difference. I just try to be a good gym member and promote the concepts. :good
Are boxing and wrestling shoes the same, is there much difference? Also can you compete with wrestling shoes in amateur boxing?
There is a difference but they're very similar and lots of people wear wrestling sheos becasue they're often cheaper or more available in stores. Wrestling shoes are allowed for amateur competition, so are running shoes, basketball shoes, any kind of soft soled athletic shoe is legal.
What Right Hooker said, but to add... Boxing shoes usually are more "shoe like" and wrestling shoes are more "foot like". A Boxing boot will have a slightly risen possibly flat heel, a stiffer sole, and higher cut to support the ankles. Some Boxing boots even sacrifice grip for pivoting ability. Boxing boots are like a traditional, but specialized, shoe. A wrestling shoe is usually just "grip on a bare foot". Little to no heel rise and the sole is usually rounded up with and around the heel and extends slightly around the curve of the foot. At times the soles can be so soft and tacky that a Boxer can't quite pivot or pivots holes into them or "catch" while moving. Wrestling shoes are like a minimalist way to support the toes driving off of the mat and give a barefoot feel.
