I dont understand all the hate for Boxnation. Clev isnt a big draw & doesnt generate enough revenue to make a big, international fight financially viable As his profile builds then in the future we might see him against better opponents but right now its not gonna happen. He's still young & improving, give the lad & BN some time & things will get better.
I hope so too. A fighter like Groves needs mainstream attention. It doesn't help his career to be stuck on a garbage channel which has 10,000 subscribers. Fights like him vs. Stieglitz should be getting a lot of attention on Sky Sports News, Ringside, Soccer AM and so on. That's how genuine stars are made, not by appearing on the Bunce show by phone and being a footnote in Frank's horrible, vicious column in The Sun. I think the only fighters who truly benefit from BoxNation are guys like Buglioni who probably wouldn't get the exposure on Sky. Groves, DeGale, Cleverly, Bellew etc., are all hampered by it because BoxNation will never, ever be able to increase a fighters UK fanbase.
Its a fight everyone wants to see but why so soon? Let Clev make a few defenses whilst Tony wins a few & then make it happen. I think Tony surprised Frank & Clev by making the fight so competitive, I'm not sure Frank wants to risk his carefully-managed prodigy again without getting a return from his investment first.
I must admit I'm thinking of doing the same too. Got really frustrated with it just before and after Christmas, but they seemed to have a half decent run of fights ending with Chisora's. The problem is there is no definite schedule really and there seems to be more pull-outs than say with Sky. I agree that 10 quid isn't a huge amount to pay for each month, but it is definitely too much just for Bunce's show, which is all it seems to be for at the moment. As Virgin allow you to cancel and renew any time, might scrap it now and then pick it up again in the summer with Michell/Murray, Mayweather/Cotto and Cleverly/Karpency rematch...(!)
I dont think its just about Cleverley, Its a combination of poor match Ups and call off etc from the beginning. It seems the first few months were the best when free, which makes me also question the reasoning behind that.
If Frank decides to make proper fights for his stable i will consider re-signing tbh, until then bollocks to them.
If anyone expected any different from Boxnation then they were very naive. Krasniqi is decent fight if you are honest with yourself about Cleverly's true level. Don't forget how he boxed against Karpency. The last thing that a wise head like FrankW would do now is chuck a prospect like Clev in at the deep end as he's obviously not ready. THe fans seem happy enough and no doubt will sell out the arena so where's the problem? The fight with Macca is a potentially massive one and no point in rushing it. Things have gone quiet on the rumours about fighters not getting paid so i presume that that has now been sorted out and hopefully Boxnation is now making a profit with teething problems gone. I think we should all get behind Frank because he, his team and his sons only want the best for british boxing.
Ok so if Cleverlys not ready for world class opponents why is he walking round with a belt calling himself ''world champion''?
But the reason people are frustrated is not just because Clev is progressing at a snail's pace, but there isn't enough action on the channel! Was really looking forward to the Groves fight as there hadn't been much to get excited about recently, but lo and behold it's cancelled. Not saying it's necessarily the fault of BN or FW but it just adds to the overall feeling that I'm not getting value for money.
Absolutely. It will be a real shame if Groves makes his first world title challenge on Boxnation. The exposure will be so minimal that it will add practically nothing to his career growth. Same goes for any fighters in a similar position. Ricky Burns CV is starting to look pretty tasty, but is he any bigger a deal now than he was at the time of his last fight on Sky? His profile has not been raised at all. Same goes for Cleverly. Hell, we had a Brit challenging for a heavyweight title and Chisora had to act as some harbinger of chaos in order to garner any mainstream attention for that. This is terrible for the fighters and the sport. It's like Froch on Primetime all over, only this time a whole stable of boxers are losing out on exposure rather than just the one. As far as fights like Burns-Mitchell, Groves-Degale II and Cleverly-Bellew II go, I'm hoping that Boxnation folds before they can occur. These fights deserve a proper build up and a proper audience. The Brook-Hatton show is how it should be done.
Fights like the salido-lopez and mayweather fight will make me keep this channel. Boxing is no.1 for me and to be stuck at home on a sat night with boxing on tv and not bein able to watch it because I wouldn't pay the 12.50 I think I'd go mad however poor the show was. Maybe I'm wrong but that's just me
