Assault in the Ring is a documentary film about the match between Billy Collins and Luis Resto.

Has anyone else seen it? I just caught the last half hour or so.

Resto comes clean to knowing about the gloves having been tampered with. Resto also states that Panama Lewis used to crush some sort of Asthma medication pill, and mix it in his fighters' water bottles. Resto said it would really open your lungs, and give you a boost when exhausted.

Gotta see it .. btw, slightly off topic, but anyone know what's up with that Tyson documentary? Saw Mike and the director Tomack talking about it on Charley Rose a couple months back but never heard another word.

It showed what a true POS Panama Lewis is. The guy is not as bad off as he acts he charges a pretty sizable 'consulting' fee to work with fighters in training camp. He has worked with Tyson, Ibragimov, Duddy, Judah and some other fighters. The guy has money where Resto does not have ****.

I was also disgusted at Panama trying to throw Artie Curley under the bus. Curley by all accounts was a very good cut man and a gentleman and had NOTHING to to with the removal of the padding but since he is dead Lewis tries to hint that Curley 'knew' who did it or was the person responsible.

The whole thing left me very angry but at least Resto came clean and asked for forgiveness for what he did.

I don't have any higher regard for Resto after seeing this. I don't know if I would have reacted any differently if I'd been put in Resto's place. A lot of us would probably like to think that we would have, but let's be realistic. There is a difference between a late teen, or early 20's, fighter that is blindly following his adviser's instruction; and a seasoned professional in his later 20's. That bond with the advisers is still there, though.

Resto initially says that he put two and two together between rounds. That the oddness of why Lewis and Black took his gloves into the bathroom, and the continuing instruction to just keep punching could only mean one thing. Then, later in the show, Resto says that Lewis wrapped his hands with a material you find in a cast for a broken limb. Resto said that you could barely move your hands inside this plaster like wrap. Resto admits to rarely throwing body shots, and that he is normally a body puncher.

Resto may or may not have known about the padding removal, but he knew his gloves were loaded and fought accordingly.

Can anyone explain how a fighter cannot know his gloves are missing padding ? Resto knew and went with the program. Lewis is a disgusting excuse for a human being ...

Resto did say he had a plaster like wrap on his hands, maybe he didn't notice. I say that almost in jest, but maybe he thought that his hand wraps were the cheat.

    Ephedrine.

Serious stimulant, I used to use it to run 10 miles a day when I was very seriously cutting weight. Tweaks you right the **** out.

It's actually illegal to sell as a bodybuilding/fitness supplment because it can be used to make methamphetmine.

I suspected Ephedrine, but I am neither a doctor or pharmacist. I encountered a guy with asthma, that was also a Vietnam War veteran. This guy could get his medicine cheap at the VA, but it was a half hour drive to get there. He had no car, and took Max Alerts instead. Max Alerts have/had an ephedrine content.
