I agree. But still I think it was a great perfomance by Duran.

I'm a bit confounded why Duran perfoemed so much better against Hagler at 160 than against Hearns and Benitez at 154. Was it a styles thing? Did Hagler have more problem with technical, crafty boxers?

I think so, more or less.

Yes definitely about styles, boxers who could use their jab and movement and be defensively good counter puncher were a good foil for Hagler. Which is why Leonard always gives him problems, I think Benitez gives him problems too

Could be a styles thing; could be a condition thing.(in relation to duran, the lazy *******) or both. Ive always though Hagler was a bit overrated as far as boxing off the back foot goes- he wasn't good enough at it to safely outbox Duran for 15. Hagler was always at his best when he was swarming and aggressive, it brought out his strengths.

Duran put up a masterful, clever fight against Hagler. Close, but clear win for Marvin, though.

Considering how slippery and fast still was at 154, it confounded me that so many picked Hagler to stop him in a recent thread.

i think it was the physicality factor. considering leonard "overwhelmed" him with speed and strength to compensate for benitez's slickness, the thought might have been that as slick as he was, hagler would catch him. plus, i think he's not considered as durable as duran...possibly because of his notoriously bad training habits

Duran's durability wasn't that big an issue against Hagler, though, since Hagler had problems tagging him cleanly. Hearns who had no problems tagging Duran cleanly had much more difficulty catching Benitez with clean shots.

Brilliant performance by Duran. Hagler was very timid but I don´t know if it was too much respect for Duran or if he just got discouraged by that right hand. Anyway, this is a prime example of a loss highlighting the skillset and standing of a fighter - admitted that a win would still have been better :D

Never scored this one however I always thought Hagler won clearly but that Duran made him work hard for it. Competetive, but not that close. I think natural size was the biggest factor.

I would say that Duran won a victory of sorts. I mean, how many other lightweights could hold their own with Hagler for 15 rounds?

Roberto won the moral and mental victory.

Marvin won the fight, but lost an immense amount of credibility.

Nearly every top boxing-scribe had Marvin by a Knock-out within 6 Rounds.

Gut feeling, Michael Nunn would box circles around Marvin.

bold statement but when nunn was on point, certainly possible

i love marvin, i really do and head to head i think he's certainly among the best middleweights ever and all time have him ranked 3rd. still, if a sneaky straight hand, some movement and feints can throw him off his game so much, that does speak to something

And might I add when his opponent was swarming and aggressive.
