Style-wise,,,,,,,,,,,,when Michael Nunn was at his peak.

Michael Nunn would damn near shut-out Roberto.
Probably win 9 of 12 Rounds versus Ray Leonard.
Same with Marvin, 9 of 12 rounds.

Gives you a small indication of what Monzon was like.

Too bad that McCallum never met anyone of the fab four. Would especially have liked a fight between him and Hearns. Do anyone know why it didn't happen? Was it ever in the works?

I think McCallum was part of the Kronk Gym.

Ray Leonard never, ever mentioned Mike McCallum's name,,,,,, even when he was alone.

Leonard would have little chance against McCallum in the late 80's and probably knew as much.

Hearns-McCallum at 154 in the mid 80's could have been a classic, though. I think he could have beat Hagler as well if he moved up some time 1985-1987. I'd actually be surprised if he didn't beat the Hagler who fought Mugabi and Leonard.

If Leonard hadn't had his detached retina and retired, I would have loved a fight between him and McCallum some time 1983-1985 at 154 lbs.

I'm half-watching the Duran-Batten(fight before Cuevas I believe) fight while I type and Duran looks so sharp technically. He's slipping punches well and throwing jabs and straights in an organized manner. Very good technical fight so far though I know nothing of Batten. He was more than a brawler/mauler and his skills are what toke him so far and long in his career.

Hagler could box but you may be right about him not fighting too well off the backfoot I'll wipe some dust of some discs and find out. I agree that he couldn't outbox Duran for the full 15. Hagler had a great jab and loved swarming fighters because he would box them and eventually break them down. He wasn't the all out action fighter from the Hearns fight his whole career. Throughout his career he pressured guys with his well-placed punches and once they toke their toll he usually finished guys and that's why Duran gets so much praise for his showing against Hagler. Hagler couldn't finish Duran like he did with almost the rest of his opponents.

Right. Hagler was used to breaking guys like Antuefermo(second fight) and Hamsho down. I think guys like Duran & Leonard would always give him trouble but I also believe that Hearns could've lasted longer had he not gone in so offense-happy. Hearns would've got ko'd by Hagler that night regardless IMO.

very much agree. the only time i really saw him box much off the backfoot was against briscoe and in that, his offense was not as aggressive or effective as it was when he added a bit of brawler to his arsenal. on the rare times he boxed, he simply wasn't the dynamic, monster fighter we know him as

Hearns fought Hagler at the wrong time and used the wrong approach in insulting Marvin and starting a verbal war. Got Hagler mad and a mad Hagler was the best Hagler. If Hagler would have been mad with Leonard he could have had wins over all 3.

had Hagler been more aggressive from the first round on he would have stopped Duran. Duran is lucky he never rematched Hagler. It would have been a totally different fight.

I'm a Duran jock-sniffer to the max, but the Vegas judges were kind to Duran by making the dec. so close....

145 to 140 was truly more like it, but since the fight was very tactical it didn't really matter to me...

    Hagler won fair and square...

there's a lot of scores that are feasible and 145-140 is definitely one of em. still, i would have it 9-6 if a gun was to my head
