that's based on circumstance not lack of fighting ability, Briggs shot down Dana white's offer based on low pay.

Judo, BJJ and, Sambo are huge in many countries across the world too. We unfortunately don't here about it here though.

that's a rather lengthy message on your part...Why are you wasting so much time on my ridiculous post cdnboxing ? What i'm saying should be irrelevant shouldn't it ? You admit it yourself..."ridiculous".
I wonder why , since what i posted earlier is bull****...why do you even bother ?
It's true. Here's the proof...In his own words:
So tell me cdnboxing , do you fully agree with this ignorant **** ?
    I don't.
    Right...
So , that's what made you tic right ? ...Here's what i originally said:
English isn't my native tongue & i have to admit that expressing myself with full clarity is not always easy. So to make things clear....I'm gonna say: Yes! captain obvious , boxers are also fighters. However , given the context of his response , and i quote :
I just had to make a distinction here. "Fighter" is too vague. As a "boxer" , yes...Not SIMPLY a "fighter". A boxer is as one dimensional as it gets. Pretty much as one dimensional as a judoka is in his own sport or a wrestler and so on. It's a guy who's specialised in a specific and limited style of fighting. That's why i object to his point of view. He should've said:
That's what Floyd mayweather is. And nothing else. saying a "fighter" , insinuates too many things. For me , it means that Floyd would own anyone even under different rules...

He's a fantastic boxer yes but that's it.If you tell me: i'm a graduate of science. You have to precise WHICH science.A particle physicist is very different from an evolutionary biologist. Both are working in the scientific field yes , but one has a different specialty.

    That's why i corrected him.

Yes ,as a "boxer" no one in mma can carry floyd's jockstrap. But as a "fighter" ? No...that's wishful thinking on his part.Fighting is not just limited to punches. He should've said "boxer".
That's too easy cdnboxing. It seems to me that your biased logic works one way but not the other. Earlier you told me:
And here you are , giving me a lesson...in the mma forum..Oh wise one !
NO **** cdnboxing , THANKS FOR PROVING MY POINT. Let me rephrase that for you
Right ???? Do you now understand why i had to correct that **** ?

Bravo ! cdnboxing... SAME GOES FOR BOXING. Only the list would be way longer as far as boxing is concerned. But i'm not gonna bother here.

And i say , you're the idiot. There , i've owned you ! (joking)...But more seriously , if telling me i'm an idiot just because you have a different opinion...is quite feeble for an arguement cdnboxing.

Statistics have shown that one dimensional opponents , more often than not , tend to have odds against them.

But for the sake of argument....Let's say we have 2 equally one dimensional fighters. One , a respected boxing legend , the other , a bum from the streets...

More often than not....the bum who's only good to rush like a bull and take you down , will always have an advantage in the street or under non-boxing rules.

    Prime example:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DahOLe5z3Ek

I can already hear you shouting: "Mercer was too old" etc etc...It's ****ing irrelevant. The ref will never , under any circumstances separate the fighters during the clinch. This **** ALWAYS happens in boxing. Not in mma.

That's why Kimbo (who's a joke of a fighter & who'd get killed by a past prime mercer under boxing rules)...Had zero problems owning this boxing legend in 30 embarrassing seconds...

Keep in mind , that fight took place in in 2007...
So if you're gonna play the "too old for this ****" card...

    Here's mercer's boxing record.
2007 , he KOed Mikael Lindblad in the 1rst round
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=21570&cat=boxer

2008 , he lost by UD (was endurant enough to last 12 rounds against Derric Rossy no less )
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=278852&cat=boxer

Which is pretty impressive for his age.

Then , again , in 2008..he defeated Richel Hersisia.

    What is my point ?
The likes of Hersisia , Rossy , Lindblad...as good or bad as they may be...are ALL way more experienced than Kimbo Slice... And yet ! That bum finished Mercer in 30 seconds...

The guy only had a few weeks of basic takedown training with Bas Rutten...

A boxer is like a fish out of water under different rules. and the same is equaly true for mma fighters under boxing rules.

All of them , without exception...AREN'T mere "boxers". ALL of them , were forced to train basics in wrestling , jiujitsu , judo...

Not to mention...Guys like Manhoef , Overeem , Hunt , Crocop...are ex-kickboxers & muay thai fighters... (they'll naturally always have an advantage when compared to a boxer since they're already used to kicks , unlike boxers)

Mayweather isn't a kickboxer. Hasn't trained jiujitsu nor wrestling or judo.

    Hell , even Jeremy Williams
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=4763&cat=boxer
had a judo background when he started MMA

    here's his mma record
    http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/jeremy-williams-20334
he even judo flipped lennox lewis
    http://www.alltexasforums.com/showthread.php?p=8105
(a guy who'd muderer him in the ring)

Here's a what a boxer who's trained in "something else" can do in mma
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVhPtqj56qg

He stops takedowns , uses his ****ing knees , wrestles & even uses jiujitsu...In this case scenario...his boxing background is just a detail. It's ****ing MMA , a sport in which a one dimensional boxer is ****ed without any basics....

Mayweather has none. Call me back once Mayweather will start taking jiujitsu classes...then , maybe we'll have a serious debate...

PS: Hunt is not a failed boxer , read his ****ing bio or just look at his boxing resume
    can you call "that"
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=58555&cat=boxer
    a serious boxing record ?

    THAT'S A FAILED BOXER
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=5316&cat=boxer

Hunt , never persisted in boxing. He originally was in muaythai and became popular in K1 (some will say that he was the worst K1 gp winner in K1's history , i personally just see a guy who had potential but who wasn't motivated enough , or only on certain occasions). He seemed quite serious and motivated when he first started mma imo.

Anyway , gotta go , i'm not gonna read the rest...sorry.
Btw , don't take my message personally , and by the way threadstarter....

    i'm sorry for calling you a **** , a moron etc...I don't mean it , honestly. it's the internet , nothing more..just making conversation that's what forums are made for....Anyway , take care guys.

But the point is, why would you wrestle unless you're ascared of getting hit?

Why would you block a punch unless you're scared to get punched? Why wouldn't you leave your jaw hanging unless you're scared to get hit cause you have a glass jaw?

    What a ******ed question.

Well if it's obvious you can't fight, of course you wanna take it to the ground cuz you're ascared of gettin hit. Why else would you take it to the ground?

If you can fight, there would be no need to get in deep with a dude.

    Unless you got some tendencies.......

You know, that **** people got in droves around the Bay Area.

Back in the day, civilizations sucked dick, but does that make it right?

    Know what I'm sayin?

I enjoy both sports...However...I must admit that some mma fighters don't know how to punch effectively. Matt Hughes strikes are pathetic.

Why would anyone want to keep the find standing? They're scared getting their arms broken or choked out?

whoever started this thread has his head way up his ass. compairing boxing and mma is like compairing tennis to squash. but, fyi, boxers have almost always done poorly in the transition to mma. marcus davis has done the best of the boxers who made the change, but he is still a long way from fighting gsp. ray mercer got his ass knocked out by kimbo slice. if a boxer like floyd(and i am a fan of his) went to mma, he would be taken down and submitted or pounded out in one round. and there is no shame in that, the williams sisters would get there asses handed to them by the womens squash champion!!
