That's not a comparison I would readily make.

    The whole book is bull****.

A sad attempt at noir fiction being passed off as biography. I suppose it's entertainment, but it aint no good as a boxing book.

So says the great myth-maker, Angelo Dundee.

    Take it with a pinch.

I don't know anything about Nick Baroudi, but if he was a made guy, I can promise you that Liston wouldn't have touched him and that the whole story would thus be nonsense.

why wouldn't he have touched him?
    because he was a gangleader?
that doesn't really make any sense..

If an Italian was "made" that meant something. It still does, though less so. What it meant was that he was a part of something that had no name, but what you've heard of as "Mafia." They are 'untouchable' and that is meant literally. If a civilian touched a made man, shoves him in a drunken fit or what have you, the chances were excellent that they'd disappear.

Liston knew how they operated and didn't cross lines.

lol you guys are just gonna discredit the story simply because Liston didnt get stabbed?

None of know weather or not its true....I think its better and more fun to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I mean your gonna need better reasoning to disprove the story than "he didnt get stabbed" lol

and whats this talk about being "made"

it said the guy was a gangleader, not a mafia boss

    It wasn't the mafia,
It was a small gang in jail.

The burden of proof is on those that claim it happened, not on those that choose not to believe a hand me down story.

He probably realized in prison that the real "crazy" people just cannot be intimidated, they won't fold or change their ways. Ali was so cocky and gave off such an aura of invinciblity that he probably reminded Liston of the "crazies" in prison that he couldn't intimidate and control. Obviously I'm just speculating but that's how I've interpreted it.

edit: this is of course assuming there's any real credibility behind the "crazy people" stuff

not really, because the quote that tommy posted said "legend has it...."

Which means it may or may not be true.

I choose to give Liston the benefit of the doubt.

Why wouldn't you just believe it?
On account of Liston's history and everything?
I would believe it. and why bother shooting down the storys if I'm going through the trouble of posting it. Just take it for what it is. After all, Liston did like kids, so I bet he would stick up for him.

now your talking about magic, myths, flying animals

are you mocking the word legend?

I didnt make it up, its in the dictionary. Its a phrase to describe something that is not sealed by fact. Im sure you know all this already, which is probably why you took the sarcasm route
