I was just sparring some 20 something year old guy from the army and it was absolutely horrible. Not because he was better, I was far better than him. He'd only had a few spars before that but he has a fight coming up. He was so awkward, every time I tried to throw a punch there was just limbs flailing everywhere, He made me look really bad at times. I landed a some really nice counters but he ended up just making me look rubbish which was very frustrating... I had some of the other guys and my coach telling me I did well but I felt like ****. :-( and please don't post any comments about how you don't care etc. Just leave the thread, I'm just venting my frustration.
we all been here before :good dont feel rained on, often akward or unorthodox guys can throw you off, work on your timing mate
I remember, years ago, watching a pro fight in which one guy was 7-0, with a long and distinguished amateur career behind him, and the other guy was in his second fight period. The guy in his 2nd fight was very wild and awkward and made his more experienced foe look bad for nearly two full rounds, before being stopped in the third. The thing is, a lot of boxing is anticipation and it screws everything up when somebody doesn't do what he is supposed to do.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9INz2rIMukg[/ame] Jr probably felt the same way, everyone has there bad sessions, i know i have them all the time your not supposed to "win" in sparring but i wish i could look like i dont get and feel like i get fcked up and the other guy looking like hes giving me a boxing lesson haha
Everybody has poor sessions, you've just got to get back in the gym and make up for it, even if it's only to yourself. One problem I've had since starting amateur boxing is the fact I spent around a year training in a professional environment with a professional coach, the main problem this has caused in sparring for me is that sometimes I'm not 'in my groove' until late on in the second round and generally we rarely spar more than 3 rounds at the amateur gym, whereas at the pro gym I've sparred up to 12 rounds, so that's led to me feeling **** after sparring sessions too, but you just have to crack on and work hard!
I saw Chavez Sr have a terrible sparring session, just get worked over by Jeff Mayweather, then a week later go out and demolish Joey Gamache.
All of the above. Also if you spar alot of people from the same gym they often have more similar traits so when you spar someone who is different your tricks and move you use to set them up for shots dont work. I was sparring these lads back home when I was back for holidays and I was landing my body shots basically at will. NExt week went in with another guy I hadnt sparred before, was just counterring the **** out of me because I went in there using the same game plan and a bit cocky.
