I saw it on ON TV. I think Tony Tucker and Tony Ayala both fought on the undercard in separate fights obviously. I think it feels like 30 years. It was a long time ago.
I'll start us off. Leonard was lucky, and he knew Hearns was going to come in to the fight weight-drained. He may have also paid off the referee to wave it off...even though Hearns was in every position to fight back...albeit laying on the ropes. Just sayin'. Feckin' fraud, Ray.
how do you think Hearns and Leonard feel? They know that they will never be back to that level of popularity and fame. I saw on another thread how Duran said he could still beat Manny P. He like his buddies Hearns and Leonard probably misses the limelight. These guys of the level of the fabulous 4 like Leonard,Hearns,Duran and Hagler probably never get used to retirement!!!! The thing is they had their time and what a time it was!
I already paid my respects and reviewed the tape here early a.m. yesterday.... It was my freshman year in high school when Leonard & Hearns tangled for the first time in '81 Vegas.... I watched the fight live on ON-TV in Los Angelels....... MR.BILL
Ayala wiped out Bacquadano in 1 on the undercard. The press loved Leo. and he WAS a great fighter. What bugs me though, is when people go on and on about this fight and call it one of the greatest ever. To me it was boring live and now on dvd. The Leo.-Duran 1st fight was great all the way and a more exciting matchup overall I think. Yet, it is forgotten. The press didn't want to bring up the fact that their hero took a beating and lost. Just my opinion. BTW Mr. Bill, how many of the younger posters really know who "Mr. Bill? was? And, you mentioned a week or so ago you were watching old heavy title fights for the Vitali fight. Did you watch Weaver-Coetzee? Easily in the top five of hw title fights which I like. Weaver's body attack is crippling and I like the whole fight . Mr. Hand
