Just how bad a** was SUGAR RAY LEONARD?

False. Pryor was not even a name fighter at the time Pryor called him out, and Ray wanted the big money fights. Something tells me guys like Hearns, Benitez, and Duran were hardly the guys to fight if you were ducking someone. This myth with Pryor came later on when people looked back and saw that Pryor called him out, considering by that point they realized Pryor was a great fighter. At the time it was no big deal.

Try to come up with a cohesvie argument instead of just writing a sentence or two, proving your ignorance and absurd lack of knowledge.

 

The idea that SRL ducked Pryor is ludicrous. One point you did not mention is that Alexis Arguello, a guy whose best days came and went when he was at 130 and 135, was favored to beat Pryor. Why the hell would SRL, one of the top 3 welters of all time, fool with a little known fighter who was slated to lose to an aging and ring worn junior lightweight? Further more, if not for the Arguello fights, Pryor would be little more than a foot note in boxing history. SRL simply did not need Pryor for any reason.

I also wonder if anyone is willing to try and convince Hearns, Benitez, and Duran that SRL is "a runner!"

Yup just because he fought them doesn't mean he didn't duck Pryor. I read that he moved up in weight in order to not face Pryor in the Olympics. He ducked him point.

 

That's the thing with Leonard. Some people seem to have only seen the Hagler fight. Sugar Ray Leonard was no runner. Many, many opponents underestimated Leonard in the same way and were ambushed as a result. Leonard had very good speed, very good power, solid fundamentals, and the heart of a lion. Before Leonard fought Hearns, people were saying that Leonard was scared to get in the ring with him....and we all saw what happened later. To this day, many people say that Leonard was scared of Aaron Pryor, which is a joke. Leonard wasn't the least bit scared of Pryor, and probably would have KO'd him inside of 8 rounds IMO. Leonard was very possibly the best welterweight of all time.

 

Did Pryor beat Leonard in the amateurs or was it Hearns ??

 

He beat a young, skinny Hearns without his power, whom he was also 4 years older than.

 

I agree, I never routed for Leonard, but he was an exception boxer. Had speed, power, excellant chin, heart, boxing ability, just a shame he was such an egotistical *****, I mean absolutely horrible.

 

He was an outstanding boxer, but unfornatutley he had to retire because of a detached retina in his left eye. (I don't know the whole story about it) If he had never retired the first time, he would of had a more prosperous career.
