Usually fighters get a big fight when they beat a big name fighter. McBride next fight after Tyson was a dark bout.
McBride was bad, had stamina problems at his best other times just plain bad, that is why Tyson retired after their fight he said if I can't beat a fighter of his standard
McBride, 35-10-1, with 7 KO losses, was a journeyman. Tye Fields was better, and he was barely a fringe contender type. There's nothing wrong with being a journeyman, the sport really needs them as prospects move up the ranks to prove themselves.
His performance against Adamek was pitiful, though he stayed on his feet. Kevin was getting old by that point, though.
Here's a fantasy fight for you: McBride vs. Peter McNeeley. Both fought out of Boston, and unless I'm forgetting something, they never fought.
The clones colossus good shout Seamus I had that issue of the ring. I believe they pointed out he was slow - ish even then I could be wrong. Wasn't he a sparring partner of Bowe? He was better than McNeely who was dreadful but Kevin was bad. Just a very big guy who sucked it up vs an old Tyson until Mike's stamina and will to continue was gone.
A better fighter than the fairly similar Peter McNeely, as other posters have already pointed out. Guys that big can cause trouble in the heavyweight division solely based on sheer size. Reminds me of Brazeale at the moment. Look at how far the likes of Kali Meehan went with just a touch of skill. Even Julius Long, to this day he's occasionally upsetting and testing top guys at a certain low level.
Other than being Irish and being from the Massachusetts. McBride has nothing in common with McNeeley.
He would have crashed to the canvas spectacularly if he'd been one of the early tyson fights. Wouldn't have got past the second
Kevin McBride was sh*t. On the plus side he was big, strong and brave. On the flip side he was ponderous, wide open and his punches had no speed or snap. Still cant believe he holds a victory over a Tyson (no matter how shot he was) as I saw McBride at his peak get seven bells knocked out of him by Louis Monaco (a Tyson wannabe).
