No hating because every boxer is a warrior just for stepping into the ring.

What are the facts surrounding this incident?

Was it career threatening or could vitali have continued to the end of the fight?

What link did it have to vitali's evental retirement?

Was it a freak injury or preexisting?

Have any boxers suffered a similar injury in the past? I know danny williams once fought with a horribly dislocated arm.

Vitali was out for 4 years because of injurys, his body just gives up. He probably didn't want to make this injury worse. guy needs to watch out for himself, even now you can see he don't put all his power in his punches.

Don't forget Vitali has a PHD in physical education, and a knowledge of human anatomy and is familiar with sports injuries. He self diagnosed his injury, which turned out to be a torn rotator cuff. To a lot of fighters, it would be a shoulder that hurts and is immobile.
But to Vitali, he knew it was a career threatening injury.
That being said, it's pretty apparent that he regreted his decision afterwards.
Remember when his face was split like a sliced watermelon against Lennox Lewis? Well, Vitali remembered his bow out against Chris Byrd, and he wasn't going to let that happen again. In fact , it made him fight harder and he was almost out of his mind when the fight was stopped.

I think those sort of injuries are touch and go as far as long term affects. Obviously fighting on wouldn't have helped. A tear is only going to get worse in a fight, not better. I don't think it harm's his legacy in such a bad way although it's a shame he didn't get the Byrd win on his record, which he was inevitably going to have if the injury hadn't happened

He won the event which is what matters

do you think he could have carried on? did he seek immediate medical action?

i don't know enough so i'm not sure what the threat was over the next 10 minutes or so.

I still cant believe danny williams by the way, that was really amazing, I have dislocated my arm about 6 times and its the most painfull thing ever, my whole body is going numb at the moment how the hell can you box a few rounds like that and even win by ko. really the most impressive thing I saw.

definitely I never thought he had it in him, on vitali's injury maybe its because he has a kickbox history, they fight everyone and often lose so nobody cares about losses there as they do in boxing, I think he could have continued and won a ud but in my opinion he redeemed himself vs lennox sameway ortiz now has vs berto.

yeah i don't really think anyone can hold that loss against him considering how dominant he was.

i'm sure he could just stood there with his arms down and taken byrd's best shots and still took home a decision :rofl

VK could have and should have continued in the Byrd fight. Certainly the shoulder injury was painful, but pain is part of the game of boxing. Plus he was a belt holder. I think Byrd's body shots were affecting VK a great deal. That an VK attitude going into the fight was probably off, as he was originally schedule to fight Razor Rudduck, completely different fighter than Byrd.

Over time though VK has more than made amends for that fight.
