They both had there moments..I think When Duran connected with bigger shots..he did more damage from...and B did do his damnist to not get into an exchange with Dran, smart move I guess... Did Benitez just get lucky???

I dont know if he fought a great fight, he did what he could i suppose. But Benitez was a great fighter, i think he was simply better than Duran at that weight.

It was only at WW..And maybe, Benitez was JUST better on that night...I think 9 outa 10 fights Duran finds a way to dismantles Benitez.:good..But Duran did fight a great fight and caught him with more power shots and aslo was makin him miss alot...Buts its Boxing and like I said Benitez may have just been better on that night.

It was 154, wasnt it? Duran lost a lot of his power as he moved up in weight, it was still good but not great. And he could be frustrated by savy boxers like Benitez. Maybe if they faced of in the late 70s at 140 or so I would give Duran the edge.

It was a junior middleweight bout. There was a period where Duran to me just didn't have it and I didn't think he would again, and this included the Benitez bout. He didn't have any sharpness physically though he was in shape for a jm bout. He followed Benitez for most of the bout but didn't have any excelleration or fire. Wilfred was just physically a better fighter at that point.

Benitez didnt win it so much as Duran lost it

by doing nothing, u let the other guy win. The performance of Benitez was nothing special and people forget Duran lost his next fight to laing for the same reason

That was just a window Benitez had where he was a better fighter than Duran. He was better, sharper at that point in their respective careers.

Had they fought earlier Duran probably beats him. Im sure had they fought a couple of years later Duran definitely beat him.

The timing was right for Wilfredo Benitez. He was a great fighter in his own right.

Benitez was too big for Duran at light middleweight. Duran's punches didn't affect Benitez as much as Duran's lightweight opponents. And let's not forget that Benitez is the guy who knows which punch you will throw next even before you know it yourself. (I heard more than one guy say that about Benitez)

Benitez won clearly! How one judge scored 143-142 Wilfred is beyond me. Most of the other posters had it right. My first $500 bet on a fight tho I only got back a net $280 because WB was the odds-on fav. (for good reason) Benitez seemed comfortable at 154 and Duran wasn't taking his power into the next weight class at that time. We saw it as a good $500 risk which proved correct. That fight paid all my utility bills that month, I can say that!

If you are asking that question then you ned to learn more about Benitez ... Wilfredo was an exceptional fighter in spite of the fact that he rarely trained ... he was a defensive master and an exceptional boxer with terrific speed and movement ... they fought at 154, a weight that was prime Wilfredo and post prime Duran ... Wilfred clearly outboxed him and deserved the decision .. it was no fluke.

I've said it a million times and will continue to say; Benitez-Duran is ARGUABLY the finest boxing clinic of all time.

Benitez was the very definition of an artist in that fight.
