Possibly a very old done to death thread, but with possibly Carls biggest fight coming up, the question can be asked again. Just how good is Carl Froch? As a fan of Frochs I probably couldnt give a fair assessment. He has a good name resume, though I dont rate some of the victories over the fighters as much as some do yet rate some of others higher. I thought Frochs away win over Taylor was very good and Froch has been very much the road warrior travelling as champ, which deserves massive credit. As a fan of Frochs I often get very frustrated when watching him, thinking he could and should be doing more in tough fights. I think his workrate can be poor. Now heres where the thoughts are. Froch looked lucky to many early in his career against This content is protected Against This content is protected , Froch was only 1 point ahead on 2 of the judges cards Against This content is protected , Froch was behind on 2 of the judges cards Frochs win over This content is protected was a SD that some felt he looked lucky Froch lost to This content is protected coming off a loss Frochs win over This content is protected was a MD Froch did look very impressive in other fights Clear win over This content is protected coming off a DQ loss Good win over This content is protected who went on to become LHW champ The main thing is though that Froch has found a way to win most of the time, even though he has had the upheaval of having to travel in his last 3 fights. In his fight with Kessler, Froch did have travel problems which I do think affected him. Now with all of his recent results/successes etc, Just how good is Carl Froch?
His will and endurance will make him competitive against anyone in the division but his lack of technique will leave him short of 1st place.
Thing is he has beaten many different styles Taylors, Dirrell, Abrahams, Pascals etc. Pascal became a 1st place LHW
I think he could essentially become another Calzaghe Good chin High workrate Tenacity But without what seems like real technical boxing skill, but he has the mindset and the courage to outwork and out-tough his opponents, but when looking at him you'd probably struggle to name things he does better than any of the elite boxers
I dont think Froch has that great a workrate and does get hit too much. Abraham had a 40% success rate against Froch but has an even lesser workrate than Froch. I think if Froch could throw more combinations he would look alot better
He can be frustrating at times, you know he is capable of more sometimes. His best performance is Pascal imo. The Johnson MD is misleading, Froch won that fight by at least 2-4 rounds. You could see that Froch could have won even more comfortaby If he had just threw more combinations from the outside and kept his compusure better. Abraham was good a perormance. Carl could be better than he is ( loves a tear up too much), but he is still a top level fighter who gives the fans what they want, and as a brit I back him all the way and think he should be very proud of what he has achieved. His will to win is his greatest asset.
Nah he doesn't have a workrate in the sense of high punch/combination output, but more in the sense of his relentlessness
One of the strongest chins in boxing right now, along with heart, can box, can brawl..... P4P top 15 minimum......
Carl Froch is very good and has a good resume if he beats Ward then goes onto beat Bute he will probably go down as one of the best British SMW.
Froch is good. For a guy with his speed and agility he's downright incredible. Nobody expected Froch to be the success that he is.
Good post. I see it very much the same way except for the best win bit. I think Froch was a clear winner over Johnson, but when you have a score with a MD it always opens up doubters. Im not convinced Froch likes a tear up, I just dont think he knows any other way in certain fights so resorts to tear ups to get the wins
That would be amazing if he did get those wins, but we would also have to praise Kessler for his resume and win over Froch, especially if Kessler beat Steiglitz for his WBO title also
