Skillful and hard punching, with the talent to have a hell of a career if he'd been more disciplined with regard to his eating/training. I'd always pick Jones to beat him, but think him and Hops would have been a great fight. The fact that a fat, old Tony was able to compete with heavyweights should show you how much potential he wasted.
freddie roach said that if he had the work ethic of pacquaio which is intense btw, he would have been the best boxer ever, his words not mine people
Great fighter but he gets overrated imo because of aesthetically pleasing style. People say what if he'd been dedicated, but what they dont understand, is thats the make up of the fighter? its like saying if Junior Jones had a chin, he did'nt.
Interesting to hear so much love for Toney as perhaps he is more well known for coming to earth with an almighty bump against Jones rather than for acheivements of his own. Which fights are those of him at his best which lead to the favourable views of him? He's not a guy most UK fans will have seen much of.
One of the most brilliant technicians ever. 3 modern Gods of defense are: Toney, Mayweather and Whitaker
