Man that was some **** huh. I'd thought Jones was going to knock Calzaghe out. Calzaghe put on a display that was unbelievable. The man litterly stood infront of jones face to face with his hands down and outclassed Jones. I never saw that one coming. Cal is one of the best in my book.

LOL that was only after the fight that Jones was shot. Before the fight Jones was going to knock Calzaghe out on everybodys card:lol: Cal litterly toyed with Jones in that fight. I mean the guy just stood infront of Jones face to face with his hands down:roflwhat more can you ask for.

    WTF????

Even Calzaghe himself said that Jones was shot and that beating him would be meaningless.

Horse****! Calzaghe was heavily and constantly critisized for taking a fight with Jones; a man Joe himself called shot!

Nice, I agree. Not sure he would have beaten Hagler tho (well maybe Calzaghe was too big in the real world, but still!!). And why do people go on about not fighting a prime Hopkins? Hopkins is currently rated 3rd P4P by Ring.

It may be the case that Hopkins is still a class operator but you must see the relevance of Hopkins defeats to Taylor and Calzaghe coming at the ages 0f 40 and 43. Especially when you consider that the only person to beat him before then (apart from his pro debut if you want to count that) was Roy Jones.

I can't vote on this because to say he was just a an average fighter really would be churlish. However to call him even a modern great is misleading as he never beat a great fighter at their peak. Yes he was a good fighter but fought an average level of competition for so long Personally I had him losing the fights to Robin Reid and Hopkins. Does anyone really think he would have beat a peak Roy Jones, James Toney, Michael Nunn, Mike McCallum or Chris Eubank for that matter. I see him beating the likes of Barkley and because of styles Nigel Benn.

Put it this way when you give him the Hagler, Duran Tommy Hearns or Sugar Ray Leonard (a guy I have never liked as man but what a fighter) test/benchmark e.g. guys who have taken on all comers then the point is clearly made. He is clearly not the greatest of all time or in the top 10 or 20 of all time. The issue is not about being undefeated but more importantly the quality of opposition. The true great could all have remained unbeaten had the shirked the greatest challenges.

Of course my comments will not be appreciated by the Calzaghe nut huggers or people in Newbridge but I call it like I see it.

Yeah that can't be denied but what more paydays could he get at that point?, no one offered big money anymore and Jones despite being beyond shot was the last big name available and willing.

One thing he got a lot of **** for, even from me, is how he completely denied saying that when he signed to fight Jones.

A modern great..... What he did to Lacy was quite brilliant and lets be honest Hopkins was old, Roy jones was old and so was Joe. C so at the end of the day game on. One fight he should of taken was the Pavlik fight and he would of schooled him like he done to Lacy and gained more respect in America, but lets be honest he had a blinding recoard and the best boxer to come out of Britain.
