saw bits of him on the telly as a kdi and it was probably him and Bruno that got me into boxing, then Tyson came along and I was totally hooked. from watching Holmes anyone can see how good he was in his era how does a peak Holmes fare aginst the best heavies of times gone by at their peak ? Frazier Foreman Ali Tyson Lewis and lets throw Vitali in could his jab keep Joe away ? could he big Georges shots ? would Ali have been too good would Larry have been too smart for Tyson ? who wins the jab battle with Lennox and would he smash **** out of Vitali ? opinions please
Holmes was a top 5 or 6 heavyweight of all time, had probably the best jab in heavyweight history,i think he would have outboxed Frazier, maybe busted him up and stopped him,i also think he would have beat Foreman, outboxed Vitali,i think a peak tyson beats any version of holmes, think he just had his number, but he wouldnt have done it in 4 rounds,a toss up between him and lewis but i would go for Holmes on a split decision,Peak Ali would beat him in a close contest..,homes was really underrated..
One of the top ten of all time, and in terms of when he came along the unluckiest. Stuck between Ali & Tyson he's always going to be in the shadows.
The 4th greatest going by my list. I'd fancy him to beat Louis, and win at least 1 in a 3 fight series against the best Ali. Awesome powers of recovery and intelligence.
I'm not too keen on rating guys. But Holmes is one of the best Heavyweights ever, and the most entertaining one IMO, in terms of his fights. As they are all watcheable.
I think he beats Mike Tyson, in his prime...! Thats the only thing, i really wanna say...! I also think the version of Larry Holmes that fought Ray Mercer/Holyfield, would of beat the Mike Tyson that fought Razor Rudduck.
larry holmes is one of the all time greats imo,the man never seemed to get the credit he richly deserved
:yep Warren loves him to bits. His favorite Heavyweight. He get's overlooked a fair bit. He could fight with best and box with them. Great Heavyweight Champion
A prime Holmes, and his prime lasted about 5 years, would beat prime Ali, prime Foreman, easily outpoint either Klit, and in my opinion, *probably* get the better of a prime Tyson, who afterall, never really fought a great fighter in his prime, and lost to every great fighter he ever met. Holmes was perhaps the best ever.
I rate Holmes as the 3rd best all time. A prime Holmes eats a prime Tyson alive. I only put him behind Ali and Louis respectively because those are the two heavyweights I rate as the greatest. In some quarters Holmes is so under rated it's criminal.
