Been looking at this guys record he has 21 losses ,but they were usually to very good fighters. Very low ko percentage of16% . What's the low down on him?
Remind me in a few days if you don't receive any answers, I think I might have several dozens reports of his bouts in my archive. But I need to finish some research first, to add several bouts to Jersey Joe Walcott's boxrec record.

I really don't put much stock in knockout percentages, especially when it comes to fighters who were active before 1950. Joyce was a real handful for just about every fighter he faced and had some wins over top fighters. According to the great Jack Hurley biography by John Ochs, Joyce was persuaded to change from being a "safety-first" fighter to more of a crowd-pleasing one by his handler, Lou Gross. As a crowd-pleasing fighter, Joyce was in great demand and a good gate attraction. - Chuck Johnston
Imagine when you were a kid if you found out the janitor at your school had two wins over Henry Armstrong?
A bunch of clippings on Joyce in a ZIP archive. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1nFeuW6bFUrFk6ahbp4PWZgy2hcaUm2BY Be aware that there's a download limit at google drive and it may be not available if too many people download it in a short time. You can try again later. I will delete the file in a few days.
Tough as they come. Didn't always need to show it though. He had past-prime Armstrong - who had recently beaten Zivic and Zurita - "missing wildly" in March 1943, during his defeat of him over 10. John Thomas, Slugger White, Ike Williams, he's an underrated lightweight for sure.
