http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=12052&cat=boxer his career highlights include 286 recorded bouts, losing only 12. He was knocked out only once, and it was a technical KO during the final round with Germany's max schmeling in 1931. He set records, too, including most fights by a heavyweight, most fights by a heavyweight in a single year (he fought 55), most knockouts by a heavyweight (127) he died when he was 28 and boxed since he was 16 very impressive but just how great was he? thoughts :think
Very colorful, beat loughran, sharkey gave schmeling all he wanted. 2nd to ol archie all-time kos, reputed to be quite good I believe top 20 Lh also beat another lh champ the very good jimmy slattery:good
He was at the threshold of greatness but could not cross it. Had he beat Schmelling I would have called him great but he was the king of the canebrakes. He died tragically and would be the all-time KO king had he been able to fight anymore. Archie Moore had great longevity and was a compiler and that allowed him to break Stribling's record.
Borderline great. He is said to have quite a view fixed fight too. Both fights with Pimo Carnera were probably fixed - win and loss by DQ. Very interesting story too.
worse hof fighter his record is horribly padded and is know to fought fixed fights should never have been let in.people give out about mcguigan, tyzyu etc but give this fraud a pass because they have a hard on for black and white footage
