    Tommy Freeman. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=30114&cat=boxer&pageID=1

Slow start to his career. 13-6-8 from 1920-1923. Fought constantly and finally won the title in 1930 against Young Jack Thompson. Defended it a few times, once against Johnson, then lost it to the same man in 1931.

Kept fighting for seven more years but never got another title shot, despite some long winning streaks. Also found out his wife left him once the larger purses stopped coming in.

My grandmother is the only person alive who knows anything about him. Freeman is/was her brother-in law, but was much older than her. Anyone know any more about the guy?

G,Tommy Freeman was a busy fighter who started his career at the tender age of 16,losing by a ko. He had 223 career bouts [Floyd Mayweather] and in 1930 won the welterweight title from Young Jack Thompson. One year later in 1931 Freeman then lost his title back to YJ Thompson. Freeman retired in 1938 as a light heavy. One of our less known champs, but a darn good fighter...
