i meant transition from known to the boxing world to being one of the stars of the sport. the same position pavlik was in going into his first fight with taylor.

now you know how i feel listening to your boring jeff only has 21 fights garbage. if jeff wasn't ready that night he'd never be ready. the guy had world title experience, looked good for the most part and was riding the crest of a hype wave.

10 years is a long time, you have no1 contenders and mandatories etc...i think personally he should of unified titles earlier no doubt. But in regards to opponents, he fought good competition at SMW that were in the division.

RJJ (that should of happened years ago). What other SMW should he of faced but didn't.
I think he should've tried to entice Bhop up to SMW like 5/6 years ago and i think he should of shut Froch up. But lets face it everyone would call Froch a bum after he was disposed of.

You quote 3 fighters and the rest as nobodies, i think that abit harsh.

My question is what fighters should of he had faced at SMW that he didn't???

pavlik has proven nowhere near what you'd like to think so far. we'll see just how good he is next month.

taylor is a physically gifted but mentally ******ed (boxing wise) and hugely flawed fighter.

    miranda is a fricking joke.

he's beaten some ok guys like mckart and zuniga.

i can see the excuses already if calzaghe were actually to fight and beat him. i get the feeling the fight will happen next year, the things calzaghe is saying are all too similar to what he said before his fight with kessler was signed.

Maybe, but thats not the question, people keep saying he fought noone in his 10years at SMW. I haven't the greatest knowledge of boxing tbh.

So i would like to know what fighters at SMW should've JC fought that he didn't??

I would like to expand my boxing knowledge, hence a reason i am on here.

This is not true. Calzaghe fans purport this myth to make the win seem better in retrospect, when really that sort of thing isn't even needed, it was an excellent performance that's there for all to see.

Jeff Lacy was favourite to win in the American press, but by no means was he an overwhelming favourite, like for instance Pavlik was against Lockett. And even though Lacy was favourite with the American press, this was no scandal or disrespect from them, Lacy was an American KO artist, of course they fancied him against a Welsh WBO title-holder. However, the feeling that Joe was 'just a body to be chewed through' was not prevalent anywhere, save maybe for crazed Yankee maniac fans on forums. Everyone (and I include the American press in this statement) had seen Calzaghe blitz Byron Mitchell (who in hindsight was probably every bit as good as Lacy), so everyone knew he was no body to be chewed through, no-one was thinking of Calzaghe as some stiff served up as an easy KO, no-one thought that.

As I remember it, the feeling was much like the feelings surrounding Cotto v Margarito. Most people in the press and most fans (other than the fans from the underdog's country - Mexico/Wales) thought Cotto would win, but everyone recognized that the underdog was a very live, very genuine threat. And of course after the fight, everyone was a little stunned at the manner of victory, but not in shock at a huge upset, as it had not been built up as a stroll in the park, not by any means.

    To say that:

joe was just a body on a high profile stage for jeff to chew through

is just rewriting history to suit, that was not the case at all.

You don`t fool anyone. We`ve heard it all before. If Calzaghe does X,Y,Z i`ll give him props and when he does the schange and he has to do something else to get credit. What a sad bunch. :|
